5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Research and Book: Developing Awareness and Focus of Effort in Rapidly Changing and Uncertain Conditions

The work and research in mindfulness written about in “Peak Mind” by Amishi Jha is something I believe will help cops (I am retired cop with 32 years and post retirement still training cops) make more effective decisions while handling crises on the street.

Then work in this book is much needed In Policing in making them more effective and safe. I have been talking about mindfulness making a big difference in preparing cops through better awareness over the past couple of years since I began using mindfulness techniques myself. This book has the research and science behind what my intuition and practice was showing me ( better awareness, better decisions, better courses of action, and better adaptability). I could go on but I will digress and just say, I am excited about this book and it’s benefits in making cops and those they serve more effective and safe.

Thank you for all your efforts and for this book. In my humble opinion “Peak Mind” is a must read!

This is a great read, even if you use it as a summary of various tips. I've already recommended it to numerous people. It's a fair balance between the science of how we think and the benefits of learning to think properly (and/or meditate). Lots of insightful gems are found amongst the stories and anecdotes that you wouldn't get by just reading the cliff notes or skimming the summaries. Read it, take your time, and enjoy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars copy cat from Vipassana meditation practice with practical proofs

i like the way it is presented and studies on how mindfulness works.
but all the findings and mentioned practices are actually thought in Vipassana meditation practice.
It would have been great if there was acknowledgement to these practice. All the observations and practices are just copied from this practice, except proof, research on how brains reacts to this methods, large scale experiments.

As a mindfulness meditation teacher, I've always felt the minimum amount of daily meditation practice (to see a real improvement) was 20-40 minutes at least once a day. Peak Mind challenges this assumption and backs it up with years of research and numerous studies. Amishi and her team have demonstrated that with a "minimum dose" of 12-15 minutes (of meditation) 5 or more days a week, you can see consistent and measurable improvements. Of course, more is better.
A fun, entertaining, and science-based read with practical instructions that anyone can follow. Like brushing your teeth, mindfulness practices work, but only if you actually do them. What would you rather lose, your teeth or your mind!

5.0 out of 5 stars A very interesting and enjoyable book

I enjoyed this book. As a long time practitioner of yoga and meditation I have benefitted from the healing power of these practices. As a scientist and engineer I'm glad to see the methods and knowledge of neuroscience being used to understand more clearly how my experience and the experience of many others has been so positive and beneficial. I hope this book reaches the hands of many people that I'm confident will benefit from reading it and using the techniques it describes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pragmatic, 'doable,' a must have!

I've been teaching mindfulness in my clinical practice and in my work with corporate leaders for just over 20+ years. Conventional wisdom focused on a 30-minute minimum to experience the full range of benefits of daily practice. With Amishi's research, it's clear that conventional wisdom has changed! In Peak Mind, she challenges this assumption, supported with cutting-edge research, and demonstrates that 12 mins a day, consistently, will show significant results!

I especially appreciate her distinction of our three Attention Systems: Flashlight/Focus, Floodlight/Notice, and Juggler/ New Behavior as it makes it easy for folks to remember.

Her focus on full presence, of being alive, is heartfelt, compelling. All in all, a must-have for anyone interested in practicing and teaching mindfulness.
