Her powers have grown more than she knows.

Others have noticed.

All she wants is a cure for her powers...

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Reading Journey

I don’t even know where to start, it was such an incredible reading journey with unexpected epic proportions. The character development is deep and complex with a tumultuous yet natural progression, new writers should read and learn.

I never thought I would come to love the alcoholic pickpocket named Bleak, what a surprise she turned out to be with never ending plot twists. And “by the rules” Commander Swinton and Queen Henri the Valian, very different people yet so rigid in their thinking until Bleak enters their lives and upsets everyone’s apple cart of ideals and ideas. And wonderful, exuberant Dash who grows into a man more quickly than anyone thought possible. I fell in love with them all. And the villains...oh wow, so artfully, cruelly and skillfully depicted.

The beautiful and vibrant descriptions of every location, the excruciating pain and torment of personal struggles, the fear of defeat at the hands of the enemy, the power of human spirit and intervention of magical abilities had me glued to the pages. I went past my regular bedtime more evenings than I wanted to while “trying” to go slowly so I could savor the experience longer.

There are so many hit or miss books on Kindle Unlimited and I guarantee you, this is a HUGE hit. The writing is beautiful and the editing excellent. It would be perfect except for a few, niggling loose ends that left me wondering: how did the Mother Matriarch get out of her prison cell to consume the herbs; when Swinton saved the Prince and Princess from the firestorm with the fireproof blankets how did the horses survive; what happened to Xander in the final battle - he wasn’t mentioned so I was hoping he would show up as a surprise for Dash at the ceremony. Maybe in he next book ????

To be able to seamlessly read all three books without waiting and losing the flow of the story was joyous. I loved this series and look forward to reading more from this author. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars An adventure with a twist on some traditional plots

This was my first series to read by Helen Scheuerer and it was refreshing. I have been searching for a series to rival Throne of Glass, and although it's not quite on its level it comes close. Close enough that I flew through all 4 books. There are things that don't go traditionally as planned and it's done in a way that is realistic to modern lives but still leaves you with hope and a happy ending (for most). I love the multi perspectives and following the character arcs for all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Story

I loved Bleak's story and evolution. I did like getting to know other characters like Fi and Dash, and Sahara. At times, the multiple POVs didn't do it for me. There were some chapters I dragged myself through, but I loved the story enough to keep going.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read

I had a really hard time putting down these books because they really do a great job of taking your mind and spirit. The setting of this magical and savage world is entrancing, I fell for all the countries or continents. Snow Queen to Fire Storms and everything in between. (Suspend your disbelief regarding travel; individuals and armies move all over the place in a matter of days or it takes months. Magic tunnels I conclude). The characters are the best aspect of this series. The villains are quite appalling (they’ll eat your life and soul to gain power, and they’ll enjoy breaking you into pieces.). The evil priestess/ fake goddess is a great villainess! She can really come at you from every angle, turn your friends against you, bewitches whole towns. And she vicious enough to have her face branded on your flesh! I really appreciate a well developed antagonist and that branding of her face on your back is a really great atrocity that I’ve never seen in fiction before. I loved the MC and her closest allies! Their changes and development is both very human and relatable and also bad ass heroic. All the characters are great and when they meet you get to enjoy a new kind of precious bond. The action scenes are done very well. Not a grocery list of things and stuff that just happen and happen until you’re numb to it. The action scenes in these books are very suspenseful. Always important. Lastly, the erotic and romance scenes are important, but it doesn’t take up too much up. Perhaps 3 or 4% of the total word count. A great series if you don’t want any melodramatic romance crap, but not some stupid story where love and sex is buried in the sand. A great series!

5.0 out of 5 stars intelligent and perfect

It took me awhile to get completely hooked into this series.
There were so many different plot lines and exceptional characters, it took awhile to settle into the story. But, it was certainly worth it. Lots of action, a different magic system, excellent description of the various locations and flawed characters learning as they risk everything. I loved hating the villains and rooting for the good guys. And, now that I’ve finished the series, I'm sorry to have to let it them all go.

Dear Ms. Scheuerer, you are indeed a delightful, diligent and accomplished author! I love how you have spun all of the webs of world-building into this trio (+additional post/preludes) of sensational characters, thoughts and of course real dedication to your craft. Many other thoughts have I, but limited space. Oh well, another time perhaps. I plan to read your other works as soon as able.
