About this item

When Oliver applied for a job in the Hell dimension on a whim, he didn't expect it to turn his whole world—or his heart—entirely upside down.

Recently graduated at twenty-six, and two months behind on rent, Oliver Barnes is desperate. So desperate, in fact, that he applies for a job in the Greed district of Hell's Pentagram. But when he misses his train and, subsequently, his job interview, he stumbles, instead, upon a strange little coffee shop in the middle of Purgatory's barren desert—and into an unexpected opportunity.

It isn't the job he came to Hell for, but maybe it's exactly the job he needs.

As he navigates the demon dimension and tries to survive the ridiculous shenanigans of his unholy co-workers, Oliver soon falls head-over-ass for a tentacled lawyer with electric fingers and a deadly-sharp grin. Together, they discover that, sometimes, love and happiness can be just a train ride away.

Join Oliver and the rest of the eccentric staff of The Passing Through Cafe in Nik Knight's new rom-com urban fantasy series, full of found family, embarrassing encounters, spicy situations, and love that crosses dimensions

5.0 out of 5 stars Deeply wonderful

An amazingly refreshing romance read. Characters are wonderfully human even when their not. Everyone has depth and is true to their character. The romance builds wonderfully and is an actual relationship (so refreshing in the insta love saturated market). Humor and spice are both on point with out being the entire book or making character feel hollow. The wonderful spicey scenes are just so full or actual FANTASTIC spice... there's communication and actual intimacy. This book actually made me exclaim and genuinely laugh out loud. The whole farm moment was *chef's kiss*.

I can't wait for the next books and reading Jude"s story.

    It's rejected! Why?!

This book is fantastic. So funny and cute, with a hint of spice. (Maybe a small understatement), but I was laughing throughout it. The side characters shine; can't wait to read their stories as well.

This book features a wonderfully imaginative world and a diverse cast of hilariously charming characters. The romance between the leads is sweet and free of unnecessary angst, while the spice level is just right. It's a lighthearted and fun read that I thoroughly enjoyed

The banter was on point. The sexual tension was great. There’s no cheating not even a hint. The 2 MC’s have a strong connection from the get go and it only gets stronger.

There are so many funny points in this story I literally laughed or giggled like a maniac out loud multiple times lol. Sometimes I kinda wheezed with laughter I laughed so hard.

This is now one of my all time favorite books. The romance was a little slow burn but honestly I feel like it was just right to feel authentic. Heat level a solid 3 or 4 out of 5. I mean, tentacles are hot, especially ones that have a suction mechanism at their tip lol. I REALLY hope there’s more in this series either with these 2 MC’s or with the side characters.

The found family in this book was really heart warming and you get to know each of them pretty well. I hope each of them get’s their own story. This author is definitely an automatic read and follow for me.

This is the best book I’ve read in a while. I’m probably going to buy it so I have it on standby to reread whenever I want.

    Seriously so good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crazy Cast and Humor
Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2025
This book is so random. Underneath a relatively angst-less plot, there is a huge cast of characters that are so hilariously insane. Plot wise not much happens. Boy meets boy, boy makes huge fool of himself, sweet and spicy relationship ensues. But there is no way to succinctly describe all the chaos that are the workers of the Passing Through Cafe.

There are moments where clearly future plot points for later books are being set up and I’m not mad about it. These characters are so wildly interesting and ridiculous it only makes me happy to know what some of the future pairings might be. I’m definitely already awaiting something between Rusty and Gem, and between Zef and the veterinarian. Calling it now!

This book is great if you want a unique pairing of MMCs, crazy humor, wild characters, and sweet romance. Some of the best scenes took place when the majority of characters were together. The entire part of the book that takes place in Oliver’s hometown should be read multiple times just for this reason.

    Looking forward to book 2!

5.0 out of 5 stars Laugh out loud funny

This book showed up in my recommended feed and I figured I would give it a chance. It starts off with Oliver getting to know his various co-workers and I kept thinking he was going to end up with one of them, which was not the case, but I enjoyed that there was a good bit of world building with his new friends before Liel, his love interest showed up. There is some angst, but overall its a light story and there are numerous instances where I legitimately laughed out loud, which does not happen often for me. I am just sad about my timing for finding the series as the 2nd book has only just come out so I assume it will be quite a wait for the rest of them, if there will be more, although I certainly hope they pair off all of the co-workers we were introduced to in this book
