About this item

It was the perfect romantic honeymoon. Until her husband disappeared.

It was supposed to be the happiest time of their lives. But for newlywed Stella, the dream honeymoon has turned into a nightmare overnight. Her perfect husband, Austin, has vanished without a trace.

Alone in Venice, Stella frantically searches for him. But as fear turns into confusion, she finds herself questioning everything she knows about the man she married. Has Austin really abandoned her, or has someone from his past finally caught up with him—the business partner he threatened to sue? The obsessive ex-girlfriend who refuses to let go? When Stella becomes convinced someone is following her, panic sets in.

As hours turn into days and clues start to unravel dark secrets, a terrified Stella can’t help but ask herself: is her husband who she thought he was at all?

This book had me thinking about who it could be, granted I figured it out before the reveal but it was a good read. I enjoyed the pace overall, it was a bit repetitive in some places, but justified due to the plot. I truly enjoyed the ending because there was an added twist. Also I loved Stella’s parents, they just seemed so sweet and wholesome. I’ll definitely be checking out more books by Shalini Boland!

I love it when a story has 2 different timelines setting the story and giving details, slowly disclosing facts and unraveling secrets. The books had me so invested about halfway through I could not put it down. Once you think it's over, come the epilogue to throw another wrench into the story.

I'm not usually an avid reader, but I've developed a love for domestic thrillers. I came across a review of this particular book that piqued my interest. I appreciated the alternating chapters between the past and present, as well as the slow build of tension. However, I began to notice a strong emphasis on food throughout the narrative. It was so prominent that I assumed it would play a significant role in the ending.

I truly enjoyed this mystery / thriller. The writing is clear, the action starts quickly and it has some good twists. Having had a chance to check out the kindle and audiobook versions, I preferred the audio version because it held my attention throughout and it was nicely performed.

Love a good twist at the end. Has the usual formula but still great! I would recommend it for sure

This was a little too slow paced for me and the ending was a bit predictable; however, the epilogue was a nice surprise. Just okay IMO.

Salini Boland can write well, so at least the book is not offensive in that way. She can move a narrative, develop characters and move a plotline along without unnecessary grammatic or typographic errors.
What makes it really annoying is that this book goes down the "tried and true" formula of the "psychological thriller" trope.
    1. Written in present tense? Yes.
    2. Secrets? So many
    3. Unreliable narrator? obvs.
    4. Last 10% twists. Def
    5. Epilogue double twist. Yes.
So, I mean, there's nothing wrong with it if you're just looking for an easy-to-read book in this genre, but I really want someone to write something that becomes bigger than Gone Girl, so that writers can find someone else to copy and stop annoying innocent readers with books written in present tense.
