About this item

Come Sundown named as one of Whoopi Goldberg's "Favorite Summer Reads" on ABC's The View and one of NY Post's biggest blockbuster "Whizbang Books" of the summer.

A novel of suspense, family ties, and twisted passions from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Obsession...

The Bodine ranch and resort in western Montana is a family business, an idyllic spot for vacationers. A little over thirty thousand acres and home to four generations, it’s kept running by Bodine Longbow with the help of a large staff, including new hire Callen Skinner. There was another member of the family once: Bodine’s aunt, Alice, who ran off before Bodine was born. She never returned, and the Longbows don’t talk about her much. The younger ones, who never met her, quietly presume she’s dead. But she isn’t. She is not far away, part of a new family, one she never chose - and her mind has been shattered...

When a bartender leaves the resort late one night, and Bo and Cal discover her battered body in the snow, it’s the first sign that danger lurks in the mountains that surround them. The police suspect Cal, but Bo finds herself trusting him - and turning to him as another woman is murdered and the Longbows are stunned by Alice’s sudden reappearance. The twisted story she has to tell about the past - and the threat that follows in her wake - will test the bonds of this strong family, and thrust Bodine into a darkness she could never have imagined.

Nora Roberts is one of my all-time favorite authors. Her latest book was a captivating read that I couldn't put down, finishing it in just two days. The story was a delightful blend of romance, humor, suspense, and emotion that kept me thoroughly engaged from start to finish.

I remembered the opening, but that was all I remembered. Nora's single titles pull you in, and don't let you go until the end. The book is full of suspense and romance. Grab a copy and see what I mean.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love , family and resilience

The chapters switch back and forth between the present and the past, building the Longbow story. It's a family story covering generations who now run a resort and dude ranch in Montana. One daughter disappeared over 25 years ago this is Alice's story.

If you can get past the story of Alice's kidnapping, torture and abuse it's a great read. I found myself skimming over her chapters because the horrific verbal, sexual, and physical abuse was too overwhelming.

However, it's a romance in the alternate chapters mainly focusing on Bo and Cal, however also feature her brothers Chase and Rory. The description of the land, sunrises and sunsets makes them come alive. You are transported to this ranch by the author which provides a magnificent story of love, family and resilience. Just short of 5 stars due to the graphic nature. I read for enjoyment and some parts of this novel were too hard to stomach.

I love Nora Roberts. Love her romances, love her suspenseful murder mysteries, love herbooks sparkling with magic. Come Sundown rates very high in my list of favorites as it mixes horses, ranch life, a murder mystery, and the kind of strong, capable, and interesting female protagonist I've come to count on. It was hard to put this one down.

4.0 out of 5 stars A page turner with suspense and romance

This book travelled back and forth from darkness to light. It was the light that kept me reading and praying the dark would be vanquished. I can say the light won...but there was still some shadows. The romance was all the sweeter for the dark it overcame. As always, well done Nora Roberts.

5.0 out of 5 stars She does it again!

Nora Roberts writes good books. I think I've read just about everything she's ever written and enjoyed them all. It's so hard to put a Nora Roberts (or a JD Robb) book down. I'm always up hours past my bedtime, and this one is no different. For those who've complained occasionally that her writing gets a bit formulaic, that is definitely not the case here.
I have only one complaint about this one... Alice's son. I will say no more, no spoiler alerts here.
