The characters in this book are complex... but also simple. They are real women with real life families and real life problems... sometimes appearing confident... sometimes very unsure of themselves... like most of us! There's love, jealousy, secrecy, arguments, trust, lack-of-trust... you name it... The characters are intertwined and believable... for the most-part... It's a good read!

A quick read- would be a good beach read. Woman and their relationships and lives in their 40’s. I would have to say they were not that smart. Definitely recommend!!

I've been a devout Blumenthal reader all my life and this book showed a side of women that isn't really smart.but it does explore family, life after divorce and the intense work it takes to move on. In the end here story touches home. Blume at her best. Joining families and moving on,learning he to cope with life's difficult events hold this story together

I really like Judy Blume - Wifey, I had no idea what this book was all about so I was surprised the more I read. The only thing about it was that someone wrote: Hide this book from your kids. I guess that's a good idea. Even though I liked it because the way she writes, you do not want to put the book down.
Smart Women - This one I enjoyed very much and must say I will read again, even though I really don't read books twice. This was another book you don't want to put down because you absolutely want to find out what happens next.
Right now Ii am on a hunt for more Judy Blume's books because I like her writing so very much.

4.0 out of 5 stars A happily Interesting Read

I enjoyed this book for the complexity of the characters. I've seen a few reviews complaining the women in the book are not smart. Personally, I disagree. They are all smart in their own way but they have very real human weaknesses. Ultimately, those weaknesses either get them into trouble or when exploited, lead them something new and positive.

I particularly enjoyed the POV of the daughters and son in this story. Stuart, Michelle and Sarah have very definite opinions about their parents' behavior and choices. How they express those opinions is interesting and very unique to each child. It is very clear how those choices impact the kids' behavior and relationships both in the home and with outsiders. It is also sadly evident that the children are all looking for something they feel they are not getting at home.

All told, I enjoyed this book for the story. It was layered and the characters made sense to me. While I might not have made their choices, I understand why they made them. Because of that, I can respect what happens next.

What is quite interesting about this book is that once you pick it up, you don't want to put it down. The characters are very real and I truly found that I could really identify with each of them and put myself in their place. This book is smart, fresh, funny at times and sad at other times, but really is a joy to read. I have reread this book countless times. I definitely recommend this book!

The story is fun, and it portrays teen daughter to mom relationships spot on as I witnessed them with my three daughters. Many lines made me laugh, some just by stating the obvious. The characters relate, learn, grow and laugh, and I was with them all the way.
