About this item

One of Amazon’s Best Books of September!

Strangers on a London bus unite to help an elderly man find his missed love connection in the heartwarming new novel from the acclaimed author of The Last Chance Library.

When Libby Nicholls arrives in London, brokenhearted and with her life in tatters, the first person she meets on the bus is elderly Frank. He tells her about the time in 1962 that he met a girl on the number 88 bus with beautiful red hair just like hers. They made plans for a date at the National Gallery art museum, but Frank lost the bus ticket with her number on it. For the past 60 years, he’s ridden the same bus trying to find her, but with no luck.

Libby is inspired to action and, with the help of an unlikely companion, she papers the bus route with posters advertising their search. Libby begins to open her guarded heart to new friendships and a budding romance, as her tightly controlled world expands. But with Frank’s dementia progressing quickly, their chance of finding the girl on the 88 bus is slipping away.

More than anything, Libby wants Frank to see his lost love one more time. But their quest also shows Libby just how important it is to embrace her own chances for happiness—before it’s too late—in a beautifully uplifting novel about how a shared common experience among strangers can transform lives in the most marvelous ways.

Heartwarming. All the characters are wonderful. True love drama. Rooting for the good choices in our lives. And hope for second chances.

I really enjoyed this! I live in the USA, but wish I was in London so I could ride bus route 88! Can't wait to read more by this author.

This was a very cute story. It was a well written empowerment story for women and even men. It showed how being in the service of others can really change a life.

There was a bit more language than I like, even if these were English characters. I will suggest this book.

The synopsis of a book is usually what makes me decide to read it or not. I thought this was an interesting synopsis, and it would make for a really great romantic, or rom-com, novel. However, Sampson failed in making me feel any sort of connection to any of the characters. It felt like I was on the outside looking in during the whole book, rather than experiencing all the emotions along side the characters. With all the 4 and 5 star reviews this book has received, I’m clearly in the minority. But that’s okay because it’s just my opinion! Libby and another character Dylan seemed so immature to me, that it as hard to believe that they were in their 30s! Overall, a cute read, but don’t expect to feel anything.

I bought this book because it was a book club choice. Not my kind of book and I likely would not have read it otherwise. It came quickly and in good condition.

This book surprised me in many ways. It was a book club choice for the month. Maybe not something that would have attracted my attention otherwise. However, we all loved it!! The characters were so well developed and likable. The plot moved at a nice pace with twist towards the end. Libby, Frank and Dylan will stay with me for a while. Highly recommend if you are in the mood for a great feel good book!
