About this item

As assistant medical examiner, Lance is used to seeing strange things, but when he suddenly starts seeing ghosts, he worries he's losing his mind.

Angus grew up around the strange. With his mother able to see and speak to ghosts, he's grown up knowing there are things most people can't see or understand. When he accidentally catches Lance arguing with a ghost, he knows he has to step in before the man thinks he's going crazy.

As Lance adjusts to his new ability, he also realizes seeing ghosts has its advantages. When several women are murdered in the area, it's up to Lance and Angus to work with the ghosts of the victims to catch the killer.

What a fascinating story! A medical examiner developed the ability to see and talk to ghosts after a horrible accident. He gets to work with his crush, whose mother has the same ability, so there is no hiding something that’s a part of him. I loved this book and am looking forward to reading more books in this series. Highly recommended

First, minor quibble, Angus Young was the lead guitarist for AC/DC, not the singer. I will let all of my other aging metalhead critiques go.

The story was good, the characters engaging, it was really well-paced and plotted out. Also, the way the ghostly hints were connected to the physical evidence in the end was very well done. Overall, very enjoyable, I liked this one a lot.

3.0 out of 5 stars The slowest of slow burns
Reviewed in the United States on June 20, 2023
Actually, it’s more like the slowest of slight warmth. No burn to be found here. I’m not even sure you can classify this as a romance. I definitely rounded up to three stars because the murder case was slightly interesting, but my enjoyment was near a two at the end. Usually 2 star books to me are dreadful writing or something seriously wrong. This was just increasingly meh. It’s like the author found a way to make boring anything that could have been slightly interesting. I’m honestly shocked this isn’t the author’s first book.

The main character wakes from an accident to find he can now see ghosts. And he’s a medical examiner, so that should be interesting, too right? Well, I can’t even count the number of times both MCs stated they can never let anyone know that ghosts exist or their entire lives would be ruined. Blah blah. I’ve read several MM romance books that involve a medium or someone who can suddenly see ghosts. Some of the most interesting parts of the book happen because other people find out about this! So there’s zero conflict. No one thinks that they are strange or distrusts them because no one knows.

Throughout the book, Angus (the detective) and Lance (the medical examiner) work closely together, if always off the clock, because angus knows lance sees ghosts and can tell him info about the victims. But, now this is going to sound weird, but it was all a little too real. In most romances, the author would find a way to have Lance at every crime scene. But this author chooses to keep the MCs very professional and that means separate. (Yawn, boring)

I read some of the other reviews and had to laugh at one review saying they wished the romance was more of a slow burn. Ha! If it were any slower they’d actually be dead. There’s some very mild flirting and that’s about all. They both internally agonize about keeping things professional. I guess if you want any romance you’d have to read the next book. But since there wasn’t any romance, do I really want to read the next book?

Everything about it was just so vanilla. Lance and Angus are just fine, but comparing it to similar books this is the least interesting ghost-seeing MC I’ve ever read. These are just two normal dudes. No quirkiness at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lance & Angus

Fun story about a medical examiner who is just getting back to work after a serious accident. He discovers he’s not only among the living but can see and communicate with ghosts. He meets Angus, a detective on a case that figures out Lances new gift at the same time Lance does. Overwhelmed and thinking he’s crazy, Lance gets a visit from Angus and his mother who can also see them. Some of her best friends are ghosts! As the case gets more gruesome, Lance and Angus use the help of ghosts of those who died and others Lance has befriended. Good start to the series, looking forward to seeing them get together romantically and solve more cases.

I'm usually more into sword and sorcery, but finding this book has opened my mind to even more options. I can't wait to start the next book.
The writing is great! I'm excited to see just where Lance and Angus' next adventure takes them. I believe their relationship is going to blossom into something fantastic. Oh, and I'm also excited to find out what's going on with Cel and Ray.

I really enjoyed this story. The characters are engaging, and the plot is very interesting. My only problem with it is in a few places, the author gets a little repetitive when explaining things.
