About this item

One of the most beloved and trusted mindfulness teachers in America offers a lifeline for difficult times: the RAIN meditation, which awakens our courage and heart.

Tara Brach is an in-the-trenches teacher whose work counters today's ever-increasing onslaught of news, conflict, demands, and anxieties - stresses that leave us rushing around on auto-pilot and cut off from the presence and creativity that give our lives meaning.

In this heartfelt and deeply practical audiobook, she offers an antidote: an easy-to-learn four-step meditation that quickly loosens the grip of difficult emotions and limiting beliefs. Each step in the meditation practice (Recognize, Allow, Investigate, Nurture) is brought to life by memorable stories shared by Tara and her students as they deal with feelings of overwhelm, loss, and self-aversion, with painful relationships, and past trauma - and as they discover step-by-step the sources of love, forgiveness, compassion, and deep wisdom alive within all of us.

Why have we lost compassion for ourselves? Radical Compassion by Tara Brach teaches us how to use the RAIN method to control our emotions. Sadly, many of those emotions leave us powerless. This book provides the reader with a whole new way of recognizing our limiting beliefs. Many of these beliefs arise from early childhood experiences of fear and wounding. Radical Compassion offers this simple method for moving beyond those limitations to find compassion in our hearts:

    R-Recognize What Is Happening

A-Allow Life to be Just As It Is

I-Investigate with a Gentle, Curious Attention

    N-Nurture with Loving Presence.

Tara Brach teaches us how to step away from our negative beliefs about ourselves and others.  That allows us to experience a positive transformation through her RAIN exercises.

What I enjoyed most about the book, beyond the method, was the stories she shared of those she has mentored. This simple method of sharing these transformations teaches us that:

Our culture continually tries to define us as good/bad, right/wrong, or superior/inferior.

Those judgments invoke shame in how we feel about ourselves. That shame affects how we treat each other. It influences how much we earn, what we consume, and the shape of our body. In addition, it exerts influence on how we express creativity and our spiritual or religious beliefs.

Throughout the book, the author leads us on a path to integration and resilience as we reach the "Nurture" step of RAIN. Readers can find healing in her words. "No matter how trapped you've been in emotions like fear or shame, strengthening your inner resources can help change your brain, heal your heart, and evolve your consciousness."

If you long for attention, safety, acceptance, connection, understanding, and love, you owe it to yourself to explore the RAIN method. Our brains are constantly evolving. As a result, we each have a capacity for mindful thinking and compassion in how we view others. Use the exercises in Radical Compassion to see yourself and others more clearly to cultivate a more forgiving heart. Allow her to guide you so you can live your true potential.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this book for working through emotions

This book was recommended by my therapist. I’m not much of a reader but quickly found myself sucked in. It is an easy read.

It’s so easy for people to say “do this” and “do that” but it’s hard to know “how” - this book gives practical steps and exercises.

I have really struggled with locking my emotions up and throwing away the key. This book has taught me how to be in my emotions and feelings peacefully and how to move through them. I feel so much more comfortable with myself and actually more in control than I thought I was.

    Highly recommend.
