About this item

With the walls closing in, Navy SEAL sniper James Reece is on a race to dismantle a conspiracy that has forced America to her knees in the latest high-octane thriller that seems ripped from the headlines from the “hottest author on the thriller scene today” (The Real Book Spy), #1 New York Times bestseller Jack Carr.

You think you know James Reece. Think again.

A storm is on the horizon. America’s days are numbered. A Chinese submarine has gone rogue and is navigating towards the continental United States, putting its nuclear missiles within striking distance of the West Coast.

A rising Silicon Valley tech mogul with unknown allegiances is at the forefront of a revolution in quantum computing and Artificial Intelligence.

A politician controlled by a foreign power is a breath away from the Oval Office.

Three seemingly disconnected events are on a collision course to ignite a power grab unlike anything the world has ever seen.

The country’s only hope is a quantum computer that has gone dark, retreating to the deepest levels of the internet, learning at a rate inconceivable at her inception. But during her time in hiding, she has done more than learn. She has become a weapon. She is now positioned to act as either the country’s greatest savior or its worst enemy. She is known as “Alice” and her only connection to the outside world is to a former Navy SEAL sniper named James Reece who has left the violence of his past life behind.

Will there be blood?

Count on it!

Will the forces that threaten to destroy the United States be enough to light the fuse of Reece’s resurrection? From “master novelist” (
Ballistic magazine) Jack Carr comes his most intense thriller to date, pressing “emotional buttons that other writers wouldn’t dare explore” (The Real Book Spy).

RED SKY MOURNING by Jack Carr

Truly excellent. One measure of a great series is sustainability. Can the author maintain the excellence over time. Keep the reader engaged. Continue to develop the characters. Tie the current narrative into the arc of the series. Further, with a series such as this, the author needs something fresh every time. A new journey that surpasses the last installment. With a series such as this, it’s a heavy lift. In fact, when I finished reading ONLY THE DEAD last summer, that was my concern for what comes next. Where does Mr. Carr go from here? How can he possibly top this?

Rest assured, RED SKY MOURNING does all of the above and more.

This latest installment has everything you expect from a Jack Carr novel; intrigue, frenetic action, foreign locales, threats that cause the blood to run cold, and, of course, the cast of characters we’ve all come to love. And yet there’s more. There always is. Subtle nods to the greats of the genre and in specific, one of the godfathers, Ian Fleming. There are gems a plenty in this installment. One of them personal.

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Carr, albeit it briefly. I happened to be wearing a specific shirt, and he noted that there’s a key scene in RSM where the character Ox wears the same. I had no idea. What Mr. Carr couldn’t have known is the exchange between the character Ox and Reece on p.329 – “Nice purse, by the way,” Reece said. “It’s a satchel.” (Ox replies) – is one I’ve had on multiple occasions. I laughed out loud.

Loved it. So well done. Not to be missed.

This was long awaited for me. I have enjoyed all of Jack Carr's books. My only complaint is that he can't write as fast as I read. This was not a disappointment. It is another great book. You can tell Carr researches meticulously and includes historical context/callback that helps build the story. James Reece is an all-time great character, and I can't wait for more books from Jack Carr.

Thought at times I was reading a wine review, or a culinary column, and a textbook on explaining the detailed attributes of weapons. WOW, Carr had it all. It was a good read but the ending was suspected at least three chapters from the end. Reece can do it all, despite being shot, wounded and chased. And BTW the torture scene was pretty disgusting!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books I read in the last year.

This book is everything a man loves. Good tools, good plot, Good wining the bad.
It is a hope in these dark days. It is a hope that good man, with a good cause will win.
It is not naive - and this is good, The good man of every country are tools. That used and thrown out. Yet these are very trained tools. With good values, values of life, family and honor.
There is a lot of promotion of the tools, being friends with many of the brands - to me fair play. I did mark some of the brands mentioned, and smiled about others I already have.
The story line - gives a glimmer of hope.
Intentionally I avoid giving here - but to me Reece - as fictional as he is, and as based on real persons as he is. Definitely a reason to train harder. Push more. Not to stop. Being balanced - it is very easy only to go the range, or the gym or doing that one thing. It takes thinking to keep the balance, between all the things you don’t want to do.
I know these people really live that life, lets strive to be the best we can.

Amazing writings from this author will never leave my mind. The fusion of politics, the political arena military and clandestine ops should keep these books alive for many years to come. I salute our military, our clandestine and special operatives for the job they do. Our world would be a far worse place to be without them. Thanks to Jack Carr for sharing this series of books with me and others who read them.

This entire series has proved me with hours of enjoyment.
Having been very slightly involved in the in some of named programs, I can attest that the descriptions ring true.
I can read between the lines.
I can highly recommend the author and his fantastic ability to weave truth with fiction.
