About this item
A glorious and tantalizing new escape from #1 New York Times bestselling author Carley Fortune.
This summer they’ll keep their promise. This summer they won't give into temptation. This summer will be different.
Lucy is the tourist vacationing at a beach house on Prince Edward Island. Felix is the local who shows her a very good time. The only problem: Lucy doesn’t know he’s her best friend’s younger brother. Lucy and Felix’s chemistry is unreal, but the list of reasons why they need to stay away from each other is long, and they vow to never repeat that electric night again.
It’s easier said than done.
Each year, Lucy escapes to PEI for a big breath of coastal air, fresh oysters and crisp vinho verde with her best friend, Bridget. Every visit begins with a long walk on the beach, beneath soaring red cliffs and a golden sun. And every visit, Lucy promises herself she won’t wind up in Felix’s bed. Again.
If Lucy can’t help being drawn to Felix, at least she’s always kept her heart out of it.
When Bridget suddenly flees Toronto a week before her wedding, Lucy drops everything to follow her to the island. Her mission is to help Bridget through her crisis and resist the one man she’s never been able to. But Felix’s sparkling eyes and flirty quips have been replaced with something new, and Lucy’s beginning to wonder just how safe her heart truly is.

I've been a fan of the stories I've read by Fortune so far. She has quickly become one of my go to authors for a sweet romance with just a bit of angst. Throw in a bit of forbidden love and I'm hooked.
I enjoyed Lucy's character. She's very independent and does what she truly thinks is best. But she also limits herself with this as she ends up in a job that's not quite what she has always wanted to do. She feels an obligation to her aunt, who has passed. She struggles to find her truth and become involved in what she truly loves while still honoring the woman who helped her grow into herself.
Felix, oh Felix. I really found him so endearing. He's not afraid to be who he is, do what he wants to do, and go after what he wants. Even if it means his heart might break just a bit. The chemistry between him and Lucy is undeniable. He's willing to be whatever Lucy needs, and willing to do what it takes to be with her.
I love the slow burn heartfelt relationship that grows between these two. I love that it takes years for it to actually become something showing that if the heart knows, it will wait until the time is right. There is also an air of found family for this book.
There is definitely steam and chemistry between the FMC and MMC. I loved the smexy scenes as much as I loved the scenes where they were bantering and flirting: side glances, quick banter, and so much more.
Something Fortune did magnificently in this book is describing the setting. I have never been to Prince Edward Island. The author easily took me there with her descriptive imagery. I truly felt like I was on the beaches, by the lighthouse, And, since I've never been to this area, I was glad for the descriptiveness of what it looked like.
I also enjoyed the wonderful friendship between Bridget and Lucy. It is such a dedicated friendship. They are rocks for each other, solidifying even more that your family does not always have to be blood related. There was so much love between them, I really felt their deep bond down to my bones.
Overall this was a very enjoyable read. I loved the flashbacks you got showing how the relationship between the two main characters builds and grows. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for future titles from Fortune.
If you're looking for a found family book with an amazing friendship, steamy and flirty romance, and characters that come into their own, pic this one up and give it a try.
