About this item

Idyllic, quaint, and straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting is St. Claire, Louisiana—at least on the outside. Beneath the veneer, it's anything but. That's the secret of St. Claire.

Born and raised in St. Claire, Lindsay Juneau's life was seemingly full raising a six-year-old daughter and caring for her widowed mother. Of course, things aren't always what they seem, and the newest resident of St. Claire isn't buying the ruse.

Veterinarian Nicole Allen is looking for something different. She finds it in St. Claire with its hypochondriac rabbits, shotgun-toting shut-ins, and eclectic mix of people. The most alluring, though, is a woman who's also looking for something different.

Lindsay lives in the quiet little town of St. Claire, LA with her 7 year old daughter, Alexis. Her mother, Rose, lives next door and works with her at the hardware store they own. With everyone knows everything about everyone else, Lindsay has kept a secret buried deep. Until Dr. Nicole Allen, the new Vet, comes to town.

Robin Alexander has written a fantastically sweet story, with witty dialogue and completely relatable characters. There's no angsty misunderstanding drama that usually constitutes half of the typical lesbian novel. Instead, The Secret of St Claire is a refreshing look of acceptance and love in today's society.

I really enjoyed reading this book, found it very funny in many ways yet sad and serious when the topics called for it. I loved the way the relationship develops and how it grew and how the characters faced the issues of their relationship, coming out and families. It was a really nice fresh view on topics that are old yet you get so pulled into the story that it's hard to put the kindle down. (so the author owns me a few ours of sleep =P, but it was oh so worth it)

Excellent writing, nice plot, wonderful character development and the story line is simple wonderful. If you are looking for a great romance this is the book for you.

I finished this book in one day! It reminded me a little of "Doc Hollywood," and "Cold Comfort Farm." Excellent character development and some good ol' humor mixed in (yes, opening candy is a b^t&#h!) As another reviewer wrote, it was so nice to not have the typical lesbian worn out plot: girl meets girl, have mind blowing sex, something pulls girl away from girl, only to end up back together. This was a breath of fresh air. It made me wonder if my mom ever prays I'll meet the right girl. Simply lovely. Buy it and pass it on...great book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The star on Alexander's writing tree

Loved this story. It's well-crafted: laugh out loud funny, engaging characters - including the secondaries, has a simple plot that is nonetheless tight and well constructed. It's well built structurally: good grammar, proofread, has its beginning, middle and end in the right order, etc. The romance is romantic, the sex is sexy. The kid is a cutie*. I've read it a couple of times, now, and I know I'll read it again. This is one of the better lesfic novels currently at the top of the search pile.
(* her mother's not bad, either).

Another sweet and steamy romantic comedy from Robin Alexander. I can always count on her when I'm in the mood for a book that warms my heart and makes me laugh too. This is one of my favorites by this wonderful author.

3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat similar, but still fun

Standing on its own, "The Secret of St Claire" might have been a nice satisfying read. The writer has a very pleasant style that is easy to take in, the characters are appealing, and the storyline packs a whole lot of charm.
On the down side, unfortunately the outline for this story seems a little too similar to others by this writer. Though the main characters are very well fleshed out, the supporting cast is too familiar to feel entirely new. In addition, a lack of tension and a slightly flat resolution makes the story just a little one-dimensional.
However, given all of that, Robin Alexander outwrites a lot of people in this genre even when she's not at her best, and I would still recommend it as a charming entertaining read.

Light easy read, with humor. Am not a beiber fan. Could have lived without him in it. But the characters were delightful. Sit down and take a load off, get to know Nicole, lindsey and alexis. Please enjoy the character of Rose. You will smile the whole way through.
