A great handbook on getting started with running with the right attitude

I love Robin's mission of "redefining what it means to be an athlete and creating unapologetic greatness in every athlete along the way".
We can all be athletes.
I agree with other reviews that this book is fun and great inspiration, tools and tips for people to find and spark running. Although the key message in the book applies to other sports as well - Don't think too much, just shut up and do. The book does not go too deep into fancy sports and other science stuff. That's good since too much thinking and rationalizing too much often just holds us back.
Shut Up and Run is a great handbook on getting started with running with the right attitude. First and foremost it is inspirational and motivational, with lot of practical tips. Nevertheless, even most pro-athletes have so much to learn from this book. Most importantly that running and training itself is the reason for being, not goals, events, or achievements. Read this book and be a winner every single day for the rest of your life.
My favorite and potentially game-changing tips from the book are:
Joining a running club (your local + during travels)
Find your running heroes
Visualization tip: Write down in detail a time you felt invincible
Plus many practical tips to overcome the daily excuses of not running (like no place to shower at the office...)
4 stars for the book + 1 supporting Robin's mission.
p.s. I personally love running. I run a lot, and run marathons, and just did an Ironman. Still there was much for me to take and learn from this book.

Inspiring and feels genuine

It's as if robin was talking to me the whole time, telling me about her experiences, the struggle and her athlete journey all in all. Being a fellow t1d, it's a constant hustle. Trail and error every single time. It's hard to find balance when you set a goal to achieve it. Robin is certainly not the first t1d athele. Coming in from big apple, turning from corporate to sweat and streets while loving what she does was inspiring and makes me work on what I can do every single day to get outta my comfort zone which would potentially make me healthy and on top of my disease. Thanks robin!

Highly recommended for newbie runners like me? She is a goddess, and absolute inspiration. She took trauma and channeled it into fuel for a passion that impacts so many lives! Plus, she got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and didn't even let that stop her. The book boosted my newbie running game!

This book brought my love of running back to life!

Talk about motivation. I used to be an avid runner in college and my early 20's. Once I hit my mid-twenties I became burned out on running and started only weight lifting. About a year ago, I felt like something was missing in my routine. I felt sluggish most days, bored at the gym, and missed the feeling of pushing myself to my limits. I realized I missed running. I signed up for a couple races and ordered this book to motivate myself to lace up my running shoes. Let me tell you, this book is what I needed to light a fire under my rear. From the first page, I felt myself sit up straighter and wanted to head outside for a run right then. Even though I was familiar with a lot of the information in this book (getting the right running shoes, don't increase mileage by more than 10% each week, etc.) I still was never bored reading this. There was still so much new information and motivational exercises throughout. Some pages were just motivational quotes in big block letters, some pages had you write down your goals, your vision, etc. This book has brought my love of running back to life. I keep it by my bed and flip to random pages/quotes every now and then to realize how much I love the sport of running. So shut up, and order this book.

But this book was all over the place. We jumped quickly from topic to topic. She could have written at least 2 books with this about 1) motivation 2)training instruction. Easy read & motivational.

It's been some time since I've felt this good about a book. Although I've been running for almost five years there comes a time when you think you've hit a plateau and motivation is hard to find.
This book came to my hands at the exact moment I needed it, revitalizing me and reminding me why was it that I started running in the first place. it doesn't matter if you're an experienced runner, a beginner, a 4 minute-mile runner or a 9 minute-mile runer (like me), this books helps you relate to every aspect of the running experience and put that spark back into the lifestyle most of us runners find so fulfilling.
With this book, Robin allows us to find purpose and motivation for many other aspects of our lives.
Robin, thank you for sharing your experience with us!

Robin is Great!

I've read this book twice. The first time was a blind recommendation from a running buddy, before I knew what One Peloton was. The second was after I started using the Peloton Outdoor app and started running "with" Robin. I have also since purchased the bike and ride everyday. After running for 7+ years and 20 Half Marathons, I needed New inspiration and wanted to experiment with the most effective cross training I could find. I also just turned 50 and feared that piling on endless miles was eventually going to break my body down; even though I have been virtually injury free. I get what Robin is about and now have a better understanding of how I need to be if I want to reach all of my life goals. You can buy this book and look at the cover everyday and just that would be effective for some. But if you want to change your life and great tips on the things you need to do to make it happen, read this book. It is great for all levels of runners and has some great reminders for even the most experienced athletes. Oh yeah, and Born to Run is also a MUST!
