I learned so much history from this book - Indian, African and Canadian history, seen through the eyes of Ali Velshi's wondrous family in his tremendously readable prose. I laughed and cried and am grateful for the experience.

I’ve watched Ali Velshi on TV for quite a few years. I find him interesting, knowledgeable, and convincing on many topics, especially his reporting in difficult venues. I trust him. That’s why I wanted to know more about who he is. Small Acts of Courage is part biography, part family history and part history of the places.that form the background of who he is. He is proud of his parents and grandparents and well he should be. He also tells their stories with genuine humility while acknowledging that their greatness lay in small gestures of working for the common good. I enjoyed learning about India, Kenya, and Canada, the places that contributed so much to who he is.

I just finished this book and had to reread parts here and there, not because I didn't understand them, but because I loved his words. His redefining of patriotism touched me. His words about citizenship moved me. His family fought hard to get the blessings of belonging to a country that valued and welcomed them at last. I love the beautiful heart, determination and passion this lovely fella brings to his viewers and readers. Loved the book!

Since Ali Velshi began on CNN, I have been a big fan. I followed Velshi to Al Jazeera then MSNBC.
Small Acts of Courage takes us on a family journey from India to Africa, Canada and the USA.
I learned so much about the history of Africa through the lives of the Velshi family.
Ali Velshi writes as brilliantly as he tells stories and reports news on MSNBC.
This is a wonderful book that I recommend to all.

One of the most interesting books I’ve read. Coming from an immigrant family it’s interesting to see how other cultures have changed and their integration has been.
