About this item

From the leader of the online army in America's parental rights movement comes the real story of how moms and dads across the country are turning the tide against radical activists in public schools.

It’s no secret that our government-run public education system has held generations of Americans hostage. The teachers unions—the government’s stormtroopers—have been hard at work running a mass misinformation campaign to convince parents that because this is how it has always been, this is how it has to be. But here’s what you may not realize: the parents are winning, and we have entered the death spiral of the education dictatorship. The school choice revolution is here, and moms and dads are successfully restoring parental rights in education, one state, one school district at a time.

In The Parent Revolution, Dr. Corey A. DeAngelis–public enemy #1 of the teachers' unions–takes listeners inside this movement like no one else can. As Vox reported in late 2023, DeAngelis has become “the public face” of the effort, “traveling from state to state, holding rallies, making media appearances, and tweeting constantly.” Or as another education voice put it, “No one in education policy, advocacy, or activism has ever lived rent-free in more heads at once than Corey DeAngelis.”

As America’s most prominent and influential advocate of school choice, DeAngelis unapologetically argues why parents and political leaders must lean into the culture war taking place in schools. He exposes the hypocritical elites who are content to hold other people’s children captive to poorly run government schools while sending their own children to the best private and charter schools out there. And most importantly, he equips listeners with the ability to make sure the potent forces of the educational industrial complex don’t regain their footing.

School choice and school vouchers have emerged as contentious yet important topics in the education landscape. Advocates for school choice argue that it offers a more equitable and efficient system compared to the traditional model of forced school districting. Here are three reasons why school choice and school vouchers are superior to forced school districting:

1. **Empowerment of Parents and Students**: School choice allows parents to select the best educational option for their children based on individual needs and preferences. This freedom of choice empowers families to seek out schools that align with their values, academic goals, and learning styles. According to a report by the Center for Education Reform, school choice programs have been shown to improve academic outcomes, increase parental satisfaction, and foster a more competitive educational environment that encourages innovation and quality improvement in schools.

2. **Diversity and Integration**: School choice has the potential to foster a more diverse and integrated educational environment. Traditional forced school districting often results in de facto segregation due to residential patterns. School choice programs, such as vouchers, can help break down these barriers by allowing students to attend schools outside their assigned district. A study by the Brookings Institution found that public school choice programs can lead to increased racial and socioeconomic integration, as well as higher levels of student achievement.

3. **Efficient Resource Allocation**: School choice and vouchers can lead to a more efficient allocation of educational resources. Under a traditional districting system, schools are funded based on the number of students in their district, regardless of the quality of education provided. With school choice, funding follows the student, incentivizing schools to compete for students by providing a high-quality education. This competition can lead to improved educational outcomes and more efficient use of resources. A study by the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice found that school choice programs can save taxpayers money by reducing the cost of public education.

In conclusion, school choice and school vouchers offer a more equitable, diverse, and efficient alternative to forced school districting. These programs empower parents and students, promote integration, and encourage a more competitive educational environment that benefits all stakeholders.

Corey lays out the roadmap for success over the unions/lobbyists, that have held students hostage in government monopolies for too long. Between the Red State Strategy and the organic uprising of parents willing to fight for a decent education for their children, there is a path forward for Universal School Choice in every state in America.

Well written, detailed and entertaining. I predict that this book will go down in history as documenting the process for fighting government corruption in the education arena.

Having been in the trenches, I know that Milton Friedman would be thrilled that Corey DeAngelis picked up the torch and continued the fight. I know I am.

The fight is not over and the book contains additional legislative/policy goals that are excellent. A must read for anyone involved in the fight for school choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent recounting of the motivations behind parental activism to restore educational choice

While the decline in outcomes across US public schools has been obvious and known for decades, it took the overreach of authoritarian government COVID policies to place the issue directly in front of parents, whether they were ready for it or not. In looking over their children's shoulders during the school day and seeing the course work and discussions first-hand, parents began to grasp the extent of indoctrination, lack of substantive teaching, and struggle of students with under-qualified teachers. Adding to this the forced remote-learning environment that was known to be highly problematic since pre-COVID, and parents became both alarmed and frustrated. The disdain and gaslighting from all corners of the Education system towards concerned parents created the motivation needed to take the existing School Choice Movement and kick it into overdrive. At the forefront of the Movement we find Dr. Corey DeAngelis.

In this latest work from DeAngelis, he carefully walks us through the key underpinnings of how the collaboration between government and education unions implemented damaging COVID policies, who the key players were, the "awakening" of parents (think 'Mama Bears'), and where things stand now. All of this is supported by over 650 citations and references, allowing you to go and look at it for yourself, often directly "from the horse's mouth".

Lest you feel discouraged by how bad things have become in K-12 education, "The Parent Revolution" serves to provide a sense of hope and excitement as the past few years have unintentionally served to galvanize a grassroots effort to reclaim parent's rights all across the USA, now with more clarity as to what happened and where it's going.

School choice is sweeping the country so that the old days of being stuck in a school based on your ZIP code are over!

Not only that, but also there are more schooling options than ever from which you can select to best one for your child's needs.

This is only happening now so widely because of what parents observed during the pandemic lockdowns.

DeAngelis's book is a must-read for parents who are seeking better solutions and influencers who can make those solutions more accessible in their communities.

School choice isn't a panacea for what ails our society today (and how we are preparing for tomorrow), but it's as close as it gets!
