About this item

From New York Times bestselling author of the Cotton Malone series comes a thrilling, action-packed historical adventure that sends Luke Daniels on an international manhunt for the truth about the assassination of President John Kennedy.

Luke Daniels is in London, between assignments with the Magellan Billet, when he receives a frantic call from an old friend. Jillian Stein is in trouble. She made a mistake and now her life may be in danger. She needs Luke’s help. Immediately. Racing to Belgium Luke quickly finds that she was right. A shadow team of highly-trained operatives are there on the hunt. Intervening, he finds himself embroiled in a war between two determined sides—one seeking the truth, the other trying to escape the past—a war that has already claimed one life and is about to claim more.

Thomas Rowland is a Washington insider, a kingmaker, problem-solver, but also a man with a past. For him everything turns with what happened on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas. What history has recorded is wrong. There is more to the story, much more, and Thomas Rowland is at the center of that terrible reality. But forces are working against him, and Rowland will do anything to keep the world from learning what actually happened on that fateful day, including killing Luke, Jillian and anyone else who might be a threat.

In a race from Belgium, to Luxembourg, to the bayous of Louisiana and the Wyoming wilderness, to a final confrontation in the Bahamas, Luke Daniels confronts a series of shocking truths which not only rewrite history but will forever change his own life—as he comes face to face with the ninth man.

Steve Berry and Grant Blackwood employ Berry’s formulaic methods of thrilling chases through real and imaginary locations that reimagine history in an entertaining and provocative novel. What is always fun about a Berry novel is how closely his narratives touch upon real places and facts from history.

Luke Daniels successfully follows Cotton Malone’s ability to capture and hold our attention with a thrilling story of intrigue and suspense.

5.0 out of 5 stars A New Take on the Kennedy Killimg

This is a very good book. It also presents another theory of wha.t happened that day. Like Daniels tries to confirm the theory that Tom Rowland accidentally killed Kennedy. There are several interesting characters and people who die because of what they know. Berry, as usual, has done a lot of research and makes this a very interesting read

Steve Berry does a great job again of using a well known historical
Event and location to build a new scenario of action and intrigue! It starts in Belgium and travels to the Untied States in Loudiana, Dallas Texas and then to the back country of Montana. Berry developed a great protagonist to shape the plot. If you read it, I am sure you will enjoy the book. I cannot wait to read his next one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Luke Daniels, not a Malone but close

This is an action packed thriller with a daring Luke Daniels. He’s not as polished as Cotton Malone but he makes for a fun read. Lots of twist and turns in the book. I found it highly entertaining. A good filler while I wait for another Cotton Malone story.

I don't always like it when 2 writers collaborate on a novel, but this one worked out well. There are a few details about firearms which I didn't like, e.g., using "clip" instead of magazine, and having the characters go into grizzly country armed only with 9mm pistols thinking those will stop a bear, but in the whole this is an interesting and entertaining novel.
