About this item

The View cohost and three-time Emmy Award winner Sunny Hostin transports listeners to Highland Beach in the captivating third novel of her New York Times bestselling Summer Beach series.

In this awakening, spirited novel, Sunny Hostin celebrates family, friendship, and community and reminds us of the importance of the legacies of our collective past and finding one’s way in the world.

Founded in the late 1800s by the son of Frederick Douglass, Highland Beach along the Chesapeake Bay is the oldest Black resort community in America. Inside this proud and secluded beach community of about 100 private homes is Olivia Jones’s legacy.

But Oliva’s legacy comes with thorns—intertwined are secrets of her aunt’s death; a controlling grandmother who is determined to crush anyone or anything that will interfere with her son’s political career; and a father who wants to rebuild the family he rejected decades ago.

In the midst of tense family drama, Olivia must decide if she wants to return to the beautiful life she’s created in Sag Harbor—with the neighbors and wonderful man who’ve become central to her happiness—or finally achieve her dream of having a family and home to call her own in Highland Beach.

The first two books of this series were wonderful! This last one truly captured the reader with the intricate family stories. Just when you think you have it figured out, things turn sideways.

Excellent, inspiring and a great novel to end the series. You won't be satisfied just reading the first book, you will want to finish all three.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Beach Read

I love the Sunny Hostin collection. I read a lot of summer beach books and find the diversity of characters lacking. It was refreshing to read a beach book about people of color. The story takes place in Highland Beach. I enjoyed reading about the rich history of this special location. The story is filled with all of the drama, romance, and shadiness of any other beach story. Reconciliation, forgiveness, and love are weaved thru the pages. The story is well written. I enjoyed being transported to Highland Beach with the intermingled return to Sag Harbor. Lovely story. Page turner. Sunny, I hope you will continue making beautiful beach reads.

Fun light reading for the beach....continuing the life adventures of Olivia, one of Ama's infamous goddaughters from the author's first book, has made for delightful reading. I am hoping Ms. Hostin continues her new literary career with books about the other two goddaughters too.

I like the easy way it is narrated. Good details. It's good reading for all adults. Perfect for a television series.

Sunny Hostin did it again!! You must read this book. She pulled back the curtain and captured aspects of a world that is interesting and provocative!! Summer on Highland Beach has all the elevated soap scandal that we love! As a bonus, there is deep rooted history mixed into the DRAMA!! P.S. you will fall in love with the excellent characters - old and new ones. Team Olivia!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A little history as well as a great story

This is a story of hurt, lies and betrayal. In it the author managed to weave in parts of actual history. I research to find there are actual Porch Stories (you have to read the book) and I researched a little more of the history of Highland Beach because the nuggets in the story peaked my curiosity. Great book

Just like the 2 previous books in this series, Ms. Hostin continues to blow us away with a beautifully captivating story of these successful, brilliant, 3 dimensional women and these HBBCs, and I am here for all of it. If this series does not become a movie, such will be our loss.
