I ordered this book after reading David’s ‘Smart Women Finish Rich’ and I have to say I love this one even more. While it does have a lot of the same concepts covered in the SWFR version, I really like the different exercises geared towards couples in this version. It’s such an easy read and a few of the concepts were eye opening to me! I definitely feel like this has helped me get on track financially and I’ve even given the book to my significant other as well as recommended it a few friends. I would strongly encourage anyone who is looking to head in the right direction financially to pick up this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Billion Dollar Student and Car Loan Debt?!?!?! Try a Trillion for each, Mr. Bach
Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2019
Hopefully this issue is addressed in a reprint but I wanted to point this one error out before getting to why I am giving this a 5-star rating. I am still reading the book and just came across a pretty big typo. Step 4, The Couple' Latte Factor, states that the US student loan and car loan debt totals at a "billion" dollars. I had to read that a couple times ... there is no way that David Bach could have made a mistake like that. I had to fact check that as I was pretty sure the amounts are in the TRILLIONS not billions and yes, it is in the trillions. This may confuse some people (like me) or think that the student and loan crisis is not as bad as it really is. That just makes the point even stronger that people need to know how to create a financial plan for themselves.

Ok, now that I have that out of the way, I really do think this book are really well written (aside for that one typo). He brings a lot of insight to why you should even follow these strategies backing it up with stats and stories that really engage you and really make you feel like these strategies can be simple enough to implement. I've heard some of this advice before but David Bach gives you a richer understanding as to why you should follow that advice. This is the second book of his that I've read and I can't wait to get to the third book that I purchased. It's giving me hope that we can put our financial lives in order. Thanks Mr. Bach.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent personal finance advice for Couples!

I read the first edition of this book about 13 years ago and recently purchased 4 copies of this updated revision. One copy is for myself for a refresher and the other 3 copies are to give to couples as gifts that need some assistance in personal financial planning--This is how much a believe in this book and its guidance. I have been following David Bach's advice since I finished reading his first edition of smart couples finish rich....mind you, this was my kind of reading while sitting on the beach in Cozumel with my wonderful husband of just one year. Being newlyweds and young double (reasonable) income no kids rather fresh out of college, we had a great lifestyle, but saving and investing was not a huge priority at the time and neither of our parents offered any advice or guidance on that front. I will never forget turning to my husband and saying this book has our guiding principles on how we need to be running our finances and I need you to please read this because we are going to follow this! He read it and we discussed it in rather deep detail on our next vacation a few months later (he was living overseas at the time). Fast forward 13 crazy years (plus one beautiful son, one terrible bear market and one great bull market) and we are there. We identify ourselves with the FIRE (look it up) community at this point in our lives and it only took us 13 years through careful saving and investing and following the principles David outlines. We can't thank David enough and maybe one day I will email him and tell him our full story. He's a mentor to me and doesn't even know it. I have also read other books by David Bach through the years, such as smart women FR and automatic millionaire and I had given my parents the start late FR book. For all the couples out there considering this book, please read it and follow his advice...pay yourself first and control the latte factor. It will pay off x10!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good advice, especially for young couples.

This is one of the only financial planning books I've ever purchased and actually read. It was an easy read, and I would say that Bach's plan is easy to follow. It's nothing incredibly unique, but it's a good message to youger people like me (I'm 30) who seem to these days not have good financial basics or the ability to save. I am somewhat in this category and have plenty of friends who are as well.
The lessons are simple. Find where to save, save a little each month, invest it wisely (preferably in your companies 401K or a mutual fund), and pay down your debt before racking up more. However, Bach seems to put it in a manner where he does show how this can pay off, and even gets you half-way motivated to do it yourself. Ultimately though, it will be up to the reader to buckle down and prepare for their financial future.
I have recommended this book to my friends. ...
