His book will hold your interest too the end. The characters are quirky but fit into the plot well. Highly recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Grisham Meets Agatha Christie
Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2020
When I read a summary of the plot, it sounded like something Dame Agatha Christie might have written: amateur sleuth outfoxes the professionals and solves the crime.

We met the characters in an earlier book. The setting - an island in Florida - was a fun escape during this pandemic. The plot was pretty fresh and entertaining. One of the writers on the island dies of unnatural causes during a hurricane. The local cops are incompetent and busy with the destruction after a hurricane, so mystery authors work to uncover who done it.

That part was like Christie. As the story unfolded, Grisham's storytelling style dominated. Amateur sleuths unearth that the motive for the killing is complex and involves trips off the island and a tangled web.

At times the plot seemed a tad choppy - but the action moved fast and I was grateful for that. If you like Grisham, I think you'll enjoy this diversion. Grisham offers some thoughts on being a writer throughout the story. It's obvious that Grisham thinks that one has to be willing to work hard to be a best-selling author. I enjoyed his insights on that.

Enjoyed the read and characters. Great writing! Liked that the prolific crime reader solved it from the beginning and law enforcement proved his theories. The story originating in a bookstore on an island made it the perfect reader’s setting.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good premise, too much build-up

I love John Grisham and his books usually do have quite a bit of build-up at the beginning. I was still waiting for the action halfway through the book. The story was good and the last third of the book was good. The problem was way too much detail in the build-up and a very short finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Starts Slow But Picks Up Speed

Just like hurricane Leo this Grisham novel starts slow but as it gets closer it picks up speed! A very entertaining book, lots of characters to keep track of but they all play an interval part in making this a very worthwhile book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Camino Winds blow hard

I really enjoy most of the Grisham novels I have read, especially the legal ones. Camino Winds is different from them, as its theme is a beach community in Florida with a bookshop cum community focus and a crowd of authors, lead by the bookshop owner. When the hurricane hit the island, about a dozen people lost their lives in the storm. One of them was part of the writers’ community, and three friends who were called together to identify the body suspected foul play.
Grisham cleverly follows this cast of unlikely detectives in their search for justice for their friend.
I like the way Grisham develops his plot, sketches his characters and gives a really good feel of a beach community devastated by the hurricane. A very enjoyable read.

This is the second book in the Camino Island series. Hurricane Leo hit Camino Island. A good friend Nelson was found dead after the storm. Nick, Bob Cobb, and Bruce, the owner of Bay Books, found him at his home and after finding blood on the wall and Nelson was found with two head wounds. The plot thickens and the three theorize a story about a contract hit. After reading Nelson's last book the story seems to fit. The police aren't working to hard to find his killers. The guys Bruce decides to hire a investigation firm to try to find the killers. Everything seems to fit with what Nelson's theory was. Now to find the killers.
