Great book to jump start your practice
Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2024
This is an amazing book. easy to understand hacks to jumpstart your yoga practice. Great for beginners and busy people. I love the concept of simplicity when it comes to doing a shorter more tailored practice. I used to think I had to do 60 minutes of hard vinyasa practice at a studio to really “do” yoga but this book helped me see that it is ok to do a few simple poses that work for me and my lifestyle and I’m still getting benefit. Brett’s candor talking about her own journey with taking the “doing” of yoga on and OFF the mat refreshing. Highly recommend

MUST READ for everyone!❤️

I will preface this by saying I’m in Brett’s 200 hour yoga teacher program and it has completely changed my life!
I’ve been anticipating her book since she first announced it and it does NOT disappoint!
She covers so many topics in here but keeps it so down to earth and beginner friendly, it was truly a pleasure to sit down and read!
I’ve done countless dosha quizzes and have always been confused by the results changing each time but with Brett I have now learned I am Vata and have implemented changes to help focus, ground and calm me ☺️
This book is the ideal way to dive deeper into yogic life or just dip your toe on the yogic waters but whatever you choose trust me when I say it will change and improve your life in so many beautiful ways!❤️

Relatable and inspiring for people living Yoga in action in the modern world

I have been listening to Brett's podcast for several years and was excited to get my hands on this book. I preordered it and waited impatiently for it to arrive. I was not disappointed - the book resonates with me and is well written in a way that makes me feel like I'm sitting with a knowledgable good friend that is offering tips and advice.
Living the life of Yoga is about so much more than going to a physical Yoga class and I love how the author is able to connect to me through a book in the way I feel connected to instructors in physical class. My problem has always been not being able to nail down a home practice I'll commit to, and this book has given me the tools I was missing to not only commit to a home practice, but look forward to it as much as I do when I'm in a physical class.
I love it so much, I bought the Audio version as well so I can listen to it often and make notes in my physical copy. It's a great read and relatable for all levels of practitioners.

Finally a yoga practice that supports me and feminine energy
Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2024
Much of traditional yoga feels so strict that it brings up a lot of shame and guilt in me for not practicing it "right". Western yoga is more like a fitness routine that glorifies fitness more than the spiritual and wellness aspects that traditional yoga intends to bring the practitioner. This book, Yoga Life by Brett Larkin, does a TREMENDOUS job bringing traditional practices to the reader WITHOUT the shame or guilt. Instead, she teaches the traditional perspectives in a way that feels light and approachable. She makes yoga feel like a sacred practice instead of an unachievable goal of perfection and purity.
Without sacrificing the traditional perspectives, this book makes it easy to practice yoga in a way that is uniquely beneficial to you as a reader. She walks you through all of the different aspects of a daily practice, from breathing exercises to meditation to energy-building poses to grounding down. In the book, you'll learn how to choose a practice based on your own dosha (Ayurvedic constitution), which can be adapted as needed. She teaches you how to give yourself grace and how to adapt your practice to your own needs, moment to moment.
I also really loved how much the author speaks about feminine and masculine energy throughout the book. As a woman, competing in the masculine rat race in my 20s wore me down and brought up a lot of health issues that I've been learning to heal ever since. This book speaks to how damaging that can be for women and provides ways to balance out our feminine energy through our yoga practice.
I will be buying for my friends because I think it's exactly what women need and I can see how healing it can be for women looking to reconnect with their feminine energy through grounding practices.

Learn about yoga both ON and OFF the mat!
Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2024
I learned so much from Brett’s book even though I have been doing various forms of yoga for over 16 years. While this book includes finding some key yoga poses that are best suited for certain needs, it is about so much more. I’ve benefited from learning to focus on breath over poses and learning about various breath techniques to reduce anxiety or increase energy. Focusing on self-awareness, self-care, and letting go of expectations are all important aspects of “off the mat” yoga as explained in detail in the early chapters. Brett is so knowledgeable and has done the research, but she writes and explains it all in a very readable style that is easy to understand, and easy to incorporate into your life. She isn’t preaching to do yoga The One Way according to her, but rather guiding you to find the right yoga for YOU depending upon your needs. And I love the Yoga Habits that you can easily slip into your day, no matter how chaotic. This book is a keeper!

Brett’s message is so insightful and yet so simple, it is delightful to read. I can conclude that the reason it comes across like, duh, of course yoga should be personalized to the individual person, need, moment and then given the tools and framework to do so - this profound point of view can only come from someone who has dedicated their life to master all elements of yoga in order to make it accessible to all as their mission. The one and only - Brett! How lucky we are to have encountered her in our lives and that she has shared all her wonderful wisdom to us in a modern relevant way. Brava, ‘Mastress’ Brett!

I have had the pleasure and honor of being trained by Brett Larkin in her Uplifted Yoga Teacher Training. Brett is the embodiment of living the yoga life. This book is a beautiful handbook of how to make yoga a part of your everyday life. In her course and in this book, she teaches that noticing your breath can change your life. I am living proof of that. There are so many wonderful nuggets in this book that will encourage you to take your yoga off the mat and into your life each and every day.
