Do I love a good celebrity memoir? You know I do. Was I biased going into this because I love Pitch Perfect, Pitch Perfect 2, Pitch Perfect 3, Bridesmaids, and her performance as a live Ursula? Yes. Have I been curious about Rebel for years because of how mysterious her background was for her first several years in the public eye? Heck to the yes.
And boy oh boy did this deliver. She takes two present-day chapters to tee things up, and her plot-twist revelation towards the end of the first two chapters is so extremely different from what you read in a celebrity memoir now (or anywhere). She then dives into her past to support her revelation's hypothesis and she succeeds.
And of course - it's also fun. She loves music (duh). She's only a year older than me, so we have a lot of the same cultural references. Her childhood has to be read to be believed. I have always loved her, but I have off the charts respect for her now. From a young age, in the midst of a dysfunctional family dynamic, she identified goals and went and got them. I don't see that stopping anytime soon.
Oh, and if you're looking for namedropping....well. I don't want my review to get deleted, so I won't drop any names myself, but let's just say I'm #TeamRebel. On top of all that, I wanna be her friend.
In short, read it!
