About this item

From the globally-recognized personal finance educator and social media star behind Her First $100K, an inclusive guide to all things money—from managing debt to investing and voting with your dollars

Tori Dunlap was always good with money. As a kid, she watched her prudent parents balance their checkbook every month and learned to save for musical tickets by gathering pennies in an Altoids tin. But she quickly discovered that her experience with money was pretty unusual, especially among her female friends.

It wasn’t our fault. Investigating this financial literacy and wealth gap, Tori found that girls are significantly less likely to receive a holistic financial education; we’re taught to restrain our spending, while boys are taught about investing and rewarded for pursuing wealth. In adulthood, women are hounded by the unfounded stereotype of the frivolous spenders whose lattes are to blame for the wealth gap. And when something like, say, a global pandemic happens, we’re the first to have jobs cut and the last to re-enter the workforce. It's no wonder money is a source of anxiety and a barrier to equality for so many of us.

But what if money didn't mean restriction, and instead, choice? The ability to luxuriously travel, quit toxic jobs, donate to important organizations, retire early? The freedom to live the life you want, and change the world while you do it?

Tori founded Her First $100K to teach women to overcome the unique obstacles standing in the way of their financial freedom. In Financial Feminist, she distills the principles of her shame- and judgment-free approach to paying off debt, figuring out your value categories to spend mindfully, saving money without monk-like deprivation, and investing in order to spend your retirement tanning in Tulum.

Featuring journaling prompts, deep-dives into the invisible aspects of the financial landscape, and interviews with experts on everything money—from predatory credit card companies to the racial wealth gap and voting with your dollars—Financial Feminist is the ultimate guide to making your money work harder for you (rather than the other way around.)

A little cringe at times but overall extremely helpful and easy read that I know I can look back at as needed in the future. As someone who grew up in a Dave Ramsey household, this more modern take on finance was very refreshing. I love Tori’s online content and would buy more works from her in the future as well.

You absolutely can learn something from these young feminists and Tori proves that point by presenting finances in an easy-to-understand way. That she is also a feminist makes this book even better. As a grey divorcee, I'm grateful to have found her and her work.

I will say that I am learning so much from this book. Tori is a millionaire who tells us how she got where she is and how she did it. She really goes into detail about the misconceptions and misinformation drilled into women by the patriarchal society. By sharing the misinfo that is fed to most women from birth, she explains how to educate ourselves to have a healthier financial life. It is called Financial Feminist for a reason and I am so very grateful to her for her long hours of research to bring this book to life.

I have read other comments that states that Tori is not qualified to have written a book such as this.
I am calling bullshit on that!!

I am so very grateful for her book and have learned so much about what I do not know and questions I had no idea to ask.

In the past, I have listened to "Financial Gurus" who literally would hit the "shame" button for a person's ingorance. Seriously!

And, what is so much worse about these "gurus" is that these people came to them for education on their finances and left feeling humiliated. (From my perspective)

These other "gurus" have given advice that is not practical for actual living. It makes me wonder if those "gurus" actually follow their own advice or have lived at least one year on a income that reflects what they are telling others in that income bracket to do.

It really seems that the "gurus" have "ostriched" themselves in their tax bracket and are unable to help those who are not in the same income status.

Tori was there and earned her way to where she is and STILL has the ability to connect with those working their way up and out of debt.

I am really thrilled to actually have this knowledge to better my life and other women in my surroundings by sharing this book with them.

I'm on a constant mission to better myself financially. This book is very eye-opening to some of the struggles as a woman we run into with money. And the stereotypes that we succumb to. It helps you have a great realization of your relationship with money and learning better ways to spend and save. I think it's a great starting point to open your eyes to money and your relationship with it. I'm very excited to continue this journey with learning better financial planning. Friendly reminder, that one coffee that you buy is not gonna put you into debt. It's all about balance on where you spend.
