About this item
An opposites-attract, ice queen lesbian romance about finding the softest of hearts behind the highest walls.
Newly minted high school teacher Lily Cross is young, bubbly, and can’t wait to put her fresh ideas into practice in the classroom. Her excitement is derailed after a disastrous run-in with a colleague. Lily didn’t realize she’d have to win over her fellow teachers as well as her students, but that’s okay. Lily’s up to the challenge.
Disillusioned Eva Thomas never imagined she’d wind up as a teacher in her hometown, or worse, suffer the boundless, puppy dog enthusiasm of a new colleague. Eva has no interest in making friends—or making nice. She just wants to survive her day and be left alone. That’s easier said than done when Lily Cross has you in her sights.
Their clashing arguments lead to sparks and then the impossible…attraction. But how can two such different people ever work?

Eva, the Ice-Queen is not the one to socialize with anyone, she likes order and is Lily’s complete opposite in every way. Or so they think, because hidden between the online alias Elsa and Molly it seems there there is nothing but the chemistry between the two.
This is an amusing read in every way and one can’t help but to fall in love with the two characters, with their quirky personalities, not to mention the side-kicks Hades and Franklin among others.
An amusing read already from the first page and totally recommendable.
However, the jaded one, Eva - her insistence that she doesn't want a relationship and hates Lily goes on too long. To the point where I am 85% done with the book, and the refusal of Eva to communicate has me shouting at the characters: "Lily run from the red flags Eva is throwing at you!" "Eva, get some therapy, because you are obviously not ready to have your own big love story! You should have been a secondary character at this point in your life - maybe watching a friend's love story unfold to loosen you up a bit first."
There was some awesome self-awareness and growth from the characters as the story progressed, and I appreciated that it wasn't an insta-love type story; however, I really feel like Eva needed to give Lily a little bit more between the 50-85% points in the story to help it be smoother and not such an abrupt moment of, "now I will communicate so we can fall on love," type of moment.
Witty banter and some lovely moments between highschool kids and teachers trying to find their way in the world.
The pace was good. And the subplots were really educative and well put, I loved them. Esp with the Daniel, I think. And then that guy was homophobic but learnt his lesson for the better. I love that Rachael followed that up. And that case with Jude, so beautiful.
I could go about naming everything I loved and enjoyed about this book and the review would be too long. But Rachael did really beautiful work here. There is emotions but also not heavy to leave you funky but good enough to feel the point of it. I love it.
Now of course, I would have loved to see Eva meeting Lily's family, now that would have been an awesome treat. Maybe we shall get a novella. Pls Lord. I manifest this into life.
