Great Story.

I thought this book was very entertaining. I found it interesting that the main character, Natalie Keane famous actress had so much trauma since she was a child that continued to build when she was kidnapped that kept her secluded. I liked the other main character, Taylor Vaughn, a bodyguard who also supported her parents who's is so sweet of her. Taylor had physical issues that helped her relate in some way with Natalie. Though their relationship was fake at the beginning as time went on it became more real which both realized they were in love. I liked that the author gave detail descriptions of the main characters. Though I wished it was more in the beginning chapters and not throughout the story. I did like the ending and epilogue. I was a little disappointed there wasn't more. I truly enjoyed reading this. I would recommend this book to everyone that loves a good romance.

Cover up worth the reveal.

This story lived up to its reviews. I was pleasantly surprised, as I began it somewhat skeptical of it’s outcome. It just seemed so predictable, but the carefully crafted character development drew me into the story. Soon I was fully engaged with what these two women were experiencing and had experienced to make them such a compelling couple. Well done.

It definitely highlights past trauma, PTSD, vulnerability, and change. It has a nice pace. The main characters were interesting, quirky, and delightful to discover. The spicy bits were fun, and the plot twists were not always obvious which was awesome! Will definitely continue reading Rachel Lacey’s books.
Bonus - I don’t think I saw one grammatical error (hallelujah! Pet peeve/quirk)

Pretending into Love
Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2024
I have always been a sucker for an intense, well written love story. Add in the nail-biting drama surrounding Hollywood and the paparazzi and you have a recipe for a heart-pounding thriller.
Natalie, a raven-haired beauty on the rise to stardom, is burdened with the trauma from being kidnapped from her home and held hostage, and she lives her life in fear as she acts calm, cool and collected on the outside.
When Natalie is nominated for a Golden Globe award, she asks for more security while walking the red carpet. Tommy, her current bodyguard, even while thinking Natalie is being a little paranoid, arranges for Taylor to work for her. Silver Security, his agency, comes up with a devious plan.
The catch is that Natalie wants Taylor to pretend to be her girlfriend, allowing her a closer level of security. Unsure of what she's getting herself into, Taylor agrees. Taylor knows that Natalie came out a couple of years ago but Nathalie has no idea that Taylor is also a lesbian.
There is much more to this book than a romance. The author, Rachel Lacey, has a firm grip on Trauma and PTSD and the damage it can wreak upon a person. I was impressed with how Natalie and Taylor dealt with the communication issues inherent in a relationship touched by Trauma. And the time, patience and professional support a person needs to fully recover from the experience.
Taylor's Father had a freak accident where his head was crushed by a falling tree branch, followed by a massive stroke and came back through the help of his wife and physical therapy. Taylor has been strongly motivated to work in order to provide for her parents. And I loved how Natalie installed a ramp for his wheelchair just for his visit. Both women are kind, caring and selfless, something you don't see modelled in many stories.
Of course the romance is lovely, touch and go given the circumstances, but Nathalie and Taylor make it charming, frustrating, steamy and, ultimately, fulfilling. But how could it not have worked out? They had a rescue kitten, and everyone knows that guarantees a happy ending.

Romance, Steam, and Angst!

When successful movie star Natalie Keane hires Taylor Vaughn to be her bodyguard and fake girlfriend, it doesn't take long for their pretend attraction to spark very real feelings, but with both women deeply scarred by the past, is a Hollywood-style happy ending possible?
Strictly speaking, Cover Story is a celebrity romance. Natalie Keane is a successful film actress whose career is at a high point thanks to a recent Golden Globe nomination. She has an entourage and even lives in a large house that boasts its own observatory with a telescope. But that being said, this is not the glitzy, glamourous, escapist story some readers might associate with the celebrity romance trope. While she may be a powerful star to the outside world, internally, Natalie is quiet, introspective, and perpetually haunted by a traumatic incident from her past. Her carefully insulated world is an extension of the emotional barriers she's built around her heart.
Enter Taylor Vaughn, the sexy, competent bodyguard Natalie hires to pose as her girlfriend while providing extra security. On the surface, she's the perfect heroine to rescue the reclusive Natalie, all while their attraction sizzles to the point of combusting. But Taylor has vulnerabilities and self-doubts too, and the closer she gets to Natalie, the more she risks pushing past her own physical and emotional limitations.
Cover Story has plenty of Hollywood excitement, including red carpet interviews and movie stunts. And there is no shortage of romance or heat between Natalie and Taylor, but what really gives the story impact is the poignant and authentic journeys of heart and mind that the characters take separately and together. The journeys are not straightforward, but ultimately, they highlight the power of healing, taking risks, and finding a person to feel safe with.
If you enjoy sapphic stories with romance, steam, but also a healthy dose of angst and authenticity, you'll be captivated by Cover Story.
