5.0 out of 5 stars Finding the Common Ground

“I will unite with anyone to do good, but with no one to do harm. “ (Frederick Douglass)
A truly enlightening and refreshing journey with Tyrus as the guide! Yes. He talks politics. Oh! No! ‘Them there is fighting’ words.’
But, this well woven expose/memoir is engaging and profound. It offers insight into those issues that, if we let them, will, inevitably, always divide us. He weaves in reflections of his childhood and the abuses he suffered. But, this is not a book about ‘victim hood.’ But, rather a biopic, at times, paradoxical examination of our societies’ current state of affairs. Advice:: If you’re looking for a ‘get on that soapbox and preach’, look elsewhere. Because, there is a raw, look in the mirror, find a common ground, and ‘look within before looking without’ ideal at play here.
Of course, there may be, some/many will to argue and, consequently, delete you if you disagree with their views. Again, Tyrus’ truths are grounded and ‘doable.’ Imagine finding that middle ground. That thread, however flimsy, that, like an ant that can carry more than 50 times its weight, can free each of us from our stoic beliefs that do little, if anything at all, to unify those things we DO have in common.
One of my favorite books/plays is a ‘little known’ work (eye roll here), ‘A Raisin in the Sun’ by Lorraine Hansberry . There’s one line I’d like to include here-

Mama: There is always something left to love. And if you ain’t learned that, you ain’t learned nothing.
Kudos, Tyrus!!

4.0 out of 5 stars I Prefer JUST TYRUS
Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2023
I have read both of Tyrus’ books and much prefer the first book, for the obvious reason that he there reveals aspects of his life which were not commonly known. The problem with NUFF SAID is that the preponderance of the chapters deal with his political/social/cultural views which his fans already know well. This is why Bret Baier focused on the ‘Sea Turtles’ chapter during his interview of Tyrus. That chapter is about the complicated relationship which Tyrus has with his mother (and it is, indeed, a lovely bit of writing). He might also have focused on the chapter on abortion (again dealing with Tyrus’ personal experiences) or the chapter dealing with his defense of wrestling.

However, when it comes to such things as the defense of the police or the issue of trans women in women’s sports we already know what we are going to read because Tyrus’ views are well-known. They are wise, but they are well-known. The bottom line is that a Tyrus fan will be revisiting old territory.

Another way of thinking about this is the book’s potential audiences. A person with only a passing awareness of Tyrus’ views will find NUFF SAID more engaging. Hence it is in a sense unfair of me to give 4 stars rather than 5 only because I am a passionate Tyrus fan, but it is what it is. Tyrus’ forte is to be scrupulously honest but also fresh and clever with regard to public issues. For me a Gutfeld episode is not really complete without Tyrus’ presence, so when I turn to a different medium—the book—I want different material.

This is one of the best books I’ve read in along time. Tyrus hits the nail on the head in every chapter and covers the topic completely while keeping each one short and entertaining. It’s one of those books that you can’t put down. Enough said!

I liked this book. I really like Tyrus! I appreciate his honest and thoughtful opinions. I don’t agree with some of them but that’s ok.
I’d still go see his show. Smart and funny? Win-win!
Btw, lots of Libertarians out here in the world…go Kat!
