Upon awaiting anxiously for a couple of years for this much anticipated book, I'd have to give it a very high rating! Similar to Dobson's book, Bringing Up Boys, this book offers outstanding advice based on the current culture in raising up daughters.

Whoever said that boys and girls were the same was wrong. Scientifically, Dobson has shown the difference of the two genders. They are wired so differently. In a culture where we are self-obsessed, girls are growing up at a young age feeling "fat" and insecure. Girls as young as nine are dieting. Sixty percent of girls at age 15 will have eating disorders. So what's a parent to do?

Thankfully, we have the guidance of people like Dobson who has thoroughly analyzed the female gender and has given us great perspective on what to do. There has been insurmountable evidence that points to the importance of fathers in a daughter's life. There are chapters devoted to both mothers and fathers in this book.

I like the examples from families like the Wilsons who started the Father-Daugther Purity Ball. Included in the book is an interview from them and how they raised their seven children. Knowing one of them personally, I can tell you that their emphasis on purity in their daughter's lives has truly made a difference.

There is a chapter on bullies and buddies. From the news, we hear of more incidents where girls have been harmed or have even committed suicide because of bullies. As I think back on my youth, I was also harmed by bullies who made for a difficult teenage experience. Dobson stresses the importance of parents talking with their teenagers about these issues.

What I also enjoyed was the questions and answers sections in this book. Real parents sent in their questions with common themes and Dobson answers them with great advice.

My advice to all parents of girls is to pick up a copy of this book! It would probably be better to own it then check it out at the library. That way you can refer to it from time to time! I am so happy that I waited for this book and could receive it so quickly! It'll be worth your money spent! Thank you, Dobson, for another great book!

Beautifully written

This book is wonderfully helpful! My husband & I recently took in our niece. She’s 14 & some of these things didn’t apply to her. But as I read (sometimes listened on Audible) I found myself wishing my sister in law would’ve done these things for her. Knowing if she did, maybe my niece would still be living at home instead of with us.
Some stories made me laugh and reminisce, looking back at my own childhood. Other stories made me cry. Especially those from the girls themselves.
When I didn’t have time to read it, I turned it on while taking a shower & getting ready for the day. It helped set my mind on how I needed to act as an adult and as a mother. Several times I referenced things to my husband on ways he can connect with his niece (“daughter”) & our 3 boys. In which he replied, “apparently I need to read this book”.

Oh, what a beautifully written resource!

Every parent, grandparent, family member or teacher of little girls should read this. It is an amazing, easy & a quick read filled with practical tips and suggestions for parents who wish to raise girls in a meaningful Christian way. Even those who do not identify with Christianity will benefit from this beautifully written resource! You will be glad you took time out to learn about the true treasures that girls are and will possibly save yourself from regret and heartaches by trial and error based learning. We all have regrets as parents but it is great to learn new ways of thinking and growing as we hope to see the next generation rise up and seek God’s heart!

Wonderful and w lighting, terrible printing

Interesting and helpful, practical theories and tips for parents. Helpful world views: “the collective character of the citizens directs the character of its leaders.”
However, this printing is 8pt font which is terrible to read! Had to turn to thrift books for a previous edition that has 12 pt font.

So I've been given three boys - I've read Dr. James Dobson's Bringing Up Boys and I'm ready to tackle the world!! Then I receive a wonderful gift of two beautiful girls and desperately NEED Dr. Dobson to write a book for rearing daughters - and thankfully he heard my petition. Because Bringing Up Girls is just what I needed to read! As usual, Dr. Dobson addresses the issues with clarity and Godly wisdom. I highly recommend Dobson and his work - it is thorough and gives parents a solid, Biblical base to build on when making decisions and rearing their children. There are vast differences physically and physiologically between boys and girls and Dobson shows how this is true and how we can use that as we parent our children. The books read quickly and are written in such a way that you are encouraged to see what he will say next. I appreciate the insight and the challenge he provides us as parents.

Absolute must read, not just for parents

This is such a valuable book I'm not sure how to emphasize it enough. Not only does it go into all of the important things to consider when raising a girl, as the title suggests, but also -it helps you to take a step back and to survey the role of women over recent history, how lies from various sources are hurting the hearts of our young women today- and how to protect your own daughter or any young woman you care for. Also very important is the information about a recent government study, that has gone by quietly, showing the vast difference in the stability, health, intelligence, and social skills between kids raised by a stay-at-home mom vs. kids put through the daycare system: the ones raised by mom at home fared so much better I'm surprised this is not big news in the media. Also vastly important are the studies, thoughts and stories of the hugely important role good fathers play in their daughter's lives. After reading this book I had to go give my husband a big, tearful hug...reading about the things prevented in a woman's future simply from a father who loves and protects his daughter. If you have any young woman in your life: a daughter, granddaughter, niece, student, etc., that you care for and want a good life for, this should be the next book you read.
