About this item

Read by the author.

For every woman searching for her voice, Anna Kloots shares her story of starting over by trusting the magic that was always within...

Despite what appeared to be a glamorous existence full of globetrotting adventures, behind the scenes, Anna felt invisible in her own life. Consumed by a marriage that left no space for her own desires and creativity, she chose to reframe the failure of her marriage as an opportunity to begin again.

It was Anna's innate sense of adventure and love for the unknown that led her to move abroad; travel around the world, visiting 80 countries; start her own business; and marry a magician—all before her mid-twenties. From the outside, her jet-setting lifestyle alongside her husband looked perfect. But though she appeared to have all the freedom in the world, in reality she was trapped in a slow-motion disappearing act.

When her marriage collapsed, she decided to use her unhappy ending as a chance for a new beginning—a reappearance into her own life and sense of exploration and discovery, letting each destination challenge, change, and shape her.

Following Anna's extensive travels from the bustling streets of Jaipur to the canals of Venice to the desert of Dubai, My Own Magic is a powerful memoir—a true, coming-of-age story about a woman rediscovering the magic that she always had.

Anna's memoir is proof that travel can transform you, inspire you, and even save you. Perfect for fans of Eat Pray Love.

I found Anna on my Instagram feed, completely at random. Seeing she had just launched a book peaked my curiosity. I am so happy that I didn’t steer clear of this book simply due to not having experience with divorce.

Anna brought me along on her travels to the point where I could smell the air of the bar in NYC where she first met Ace, could feel the heat of the hot air balloon ride in Dubai, and could practically taste her first night back in Paris meal as though I was there with her.

Everyone can relate to feeling as though their “shine” dims in the presence of another who seems so much brighter. But lighting is a personal choice, chosen sometimes for the blinding brightness of stage lighting, and other times chosen for the soft glow that creates the coziest of atmospheres. Anna is warm and relational and felt like a friend to me early on.

Through her writing, I felt her loneliness profoundly. Which made her moments of joy feel that much more enjoyable as a reader.

I finshed it in a day and will likely read again and again so I can live vicariously through her travels ????

4.0 out of 5 stars Heartfelt Journey

I’ve followed Anna for years now and while I knew her marriage ended in heartbreak I was interested to know the story of how it unfolded. I found it nicely written, engaging and ultimately a woman overcoming a mismatched marriage. I felt she portrayed her ex in a rather kind way considering all that happened. I would have enjoyed more stories of her travels though. I think for someone who has lead a fairly upscale life she sounds grounded in what matters to her and that’s living an authentic life. I hope she can pick up where she left off!! Stories of the new man in her life and the renovation of her new home and more stories of her fun travel adventures!!

This is not typically the type of book I go for. That being said, I am so happy I stepped out of my comfort shelf grabs and nabbed this story.
As a 33 year old woman, I think I speak for most of us when I say- who hasn’t felt lost? Who hasn’t felt invisible in a relationship? Who hasn’t known how to climb out of a shadow of another- to shine their own light out onto the world?
Anna Kloots speaks thoughtfully and carefully. This is not an “ex bashing book” in any way, shape or form. It’s simply one womans story of how she decided to heal herself and move foreward in life with insightful stories and powerful memories on what it means to let go, and keep walking with a head held high.
A book I think every woman from 23+ could utilize in their own lives.

3.0 out of 5 stars I’ve eavesdropped on stories more interesting than this

Woman meets man and they get married even though from the start there are warning signs that it’s clearly the wrong fit for both (he dumps her out of the blue for starters). They both suffer. They divorce. She recovers. The end.
But wait, is it? No as she then marries another guy and writes a book about that too….which I think I can safely skip.

I really enjoyed this book. I think we as women can get so caught up in taking care of others that we forget to take care of ourselves. Then we wake up one day and realize we’ve forgotten who we are and what we wanted out of life. This book is a reminder that we can start again
