5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Conclusion and Payoff!

I absolutely loved this book: the slow burn romance payoff, the world building, the heartbreak, the humor! Piper expands the world of Gyrradin leaving me feeling captivated and fully immersed. Piper is a master at weaving levity and joy with tension and sorrow. I could not put the book down and then had to reread it again as soon as I was done. It's been so wonderful spending time with these very real, the endearing but flawed characters. It was beautiful watching the characters grow and tackle all the challenges that get thrown at them in this final installment. I will be returning to this series over and over. Dawn has a satisfying conclusion that wraps up the story threads but left enough breadcrumbs for me to be so excited about the villains prequels!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful addition to a wonderful series

Piper has once again written a story to tug at the heart and make you invested in the world of fantasy. Bringing to life emotions we've all felt and tying it to characters you can't help but love. I tend to prefer a series with a definite end, but this one kept me coming back for more. I am not ready to say goodbye, but knowing that their story isn't really over keeps it alive.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best book of the four

I really enjoyed this read. The only part I didn't enjoy was the forced romance between Nox and Amaris. I really didn't feel like there was enough chemistry for a romantic relationship between the two of them. It felt more like a sisterly relationship. There was chemistry between all of the other pairings. There was more chemistry between Yaz and Nox than her and Amaris. Just my two cents. I just felt like it was a forced trope to fulfill a need for poly relationships in literature. Curious to see if CJ writes another book in the series. Other than the forced romance, this storyline was the most engaging of the four in my opinion. I really enjoyed exploring the new land of Sulgrave. I really enjoyed the conflict and the resolution.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grief is a beautiful ending

I have never encountered a series with such beautiful writing about grief in fantasy. Piper has found a way to build friendship, love, special little moments, adventure, war, deception, grief, and acceptance all into a set of characters that start as strangers and become family. Chosen family. My heart is both broken and full from this book. I have never adored a story quite like this in the end. Worth every second every page and every tear. Piper, if you continue writing stories with emotional depth like this, you have a reader for life.

5.0 out of 5 stars This one was my FAVORITE! (Contains spoilers!)

This was my favorite book in the series! There was so much that happened, so many different places on the Gyrradin continent visited, and so many questions answered (or not answered, lol). It was hard going into this knowing it was the end of the series for these particular characters. The novel did not disappoint in the slightest!

Since this is the last novel in the series, I’d like to touch on more of my opinion of the romantic relationships. I LOVED having characters who were not only bisexual, but also polyamorous (though that term is not used.. and it’s a loose association to that term tbh). There were love triangles, but there wasn’t any jealousy. It was wonderful to have that without having other characters hurt and angry. It was a beautiful dynamic with Amaris and Gadriel as well as with Nox and Malik… and of course between Amaris and Nox. Just knowing that the love that the characters shared between each other wasn’t fodder for bruised egos and jealous tempers, but instead was respected and honored, for they respected, honored, and loved each other (whether romantically, platonically, or both).

I sobbed at the end of the series as I wasn’t ready for it to end (who ever is with a good series though?!).

Thank you Piper, for creating such well-rounded, loving, queer characters. As a queer person myself, THANK YOU for writing these characters!! It was painful to let them go, but imho, it’s the sign of a talented, creative, goddess-blessed author! ♥️

I’ve loved this series so much! I’m not ready to read the last of it. Kinda praying for a Tanith spin off. Great reads, very entertaining and characters. Huge fan.

All 4 books in the series are fabulous. The backstories on all the characters are full and vibrant. Highly recommend! There are a few yummy spicy bits too!

4.0 out of 5 stars So excited but it's pink
Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2024
The book is gorgeous, came intact and no complaints there. However, I was caught off guard when I opened my package to find a pink book. It doesn't match the others in the series and it kind of disappointing. Will read and thoroughly enjoy nonetheless!
