About this item

A Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestseller.

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover comes a novel that explores life after tragedy and the enduring spirit of love.

When Leeds meets Layla, he’s convinced he’ll spend the rest of his life with her - until an unexpected attack leaves Layla fighting for her life. After weeks in the hospital, Layla recovers physically, but the emotional and mental scarring has altered the woman Leeds fell in love with. In order to put their relationship back on track, Leeds whisks Layla away to the bed-and-breakfast where they first met. Once they arrive, Layla’s behavior takes a bizarre turn. And that’s just one of many inexplicable occurrences.

Feeling distant from Layla, Leeds soon finds solace in Willow - another guest of the B&B with whom he forms a connection through their shared concerns. As his curiosity for Willow grows, his decision to help her find answers puts him in direct conflict with Layla’s well-being. Leeds soon realizes he has to make a choice because he can’t help both of them. But if he makes the wrong choice, it could be detrimental for all of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars very unique book

To be honest, I was not immediately captivated by the book until I had reached approximately 20% of its length. However, I am glad I persevered with reading it. Firstly, I am not fond of abandoning a book without completing it, even if it does not align with my personal preferences. Secondly, I am particularly drawn to witnessing the unique writing styles of various authors. Knowing that this book was written by Colleen Hoover further enticed me. It was certainly an unexpected turn of events. Having previously read Verity, I had envisioned a wide range of possibilities, yet I was unable to anticipate this particular conclusion. Every loose end was neatly tied up by the end of the book, and the author’s portrayal of the emotions of each character was truly remarkable. Colleen Hoover consistently fails to disappoint me, and I am determined to read every book she writes.

I’m not a professional reviewer by any means! I just want to share what I think.

I must say that I’ve really enjoyed this book! The story pulled me in right away and it held and kept my attention. I couldn’t put the book down because I wanted to know
more and to see how the story would end. I loved the dialogue between the characters and the writing. I liked how the story lets you know that you can find life after a tragedy and how love endures beyond this physical world. There are something’s about the story that would make you laugh and question the characters in a way lol.

3.0 out of 5 stars After reading Layla

I have loved Colleen Hoover’s books. Not so much with this one. Only good thing I liked about it was the happy ending. It’s very farfetched and impossible to think this could really happen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good story

This story was told completely by Leeds' POV. I found it fascinating to read a whole book from a guy's viewpoint when written by a woman. Leeds is drawn to Layla from the moment he saw her. I liked their connection and interactions. I also liked that the whole book wasn't just the two of them. I like how they wanted to learn more about the other and want to always be together.

Colleen's writing style amazes me, how she brings the characters to life from the first page, draws me in, making me feel very invested in what happens to the characters. I am compelled to keep reading and yet I never want them to end.

While this was very good, it was a little strange and might not be for everyone. I don't want to reveal any spoilers, so I don't want to go into anymore detail than this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant surprise!!

This is my first ever calling Hoover book. I have never really gravitated towards her stuff because contemporary romances are not my thing. I know a lot of people consider her stuff “dark and disturbing“ because some of her books have themes of abuse in them. No offense, but that is not what I consider dark and disturbing. It’s just too mild in comparison to what I normally read. Basic romance books are so boring to me unless there is some exciting or mysterious plot surrounding it.

The only reason I gravitated towards this book was because it was labeled as a romantic suspense and paranormal romance. That sounded a little more intriguing to me. So I figured I’d give it a go and I’m glad I did because I loved this book.
I honestly wish that she would dabble more into the genre of paranormal romance or thrillers, because this was done very well. It was a very engaging book, and I think that she could appeal to a whole separate group of readers if she would lean more in this direction from time to time.
There are only two other books from her that I would consider reading, which are Verity, and Too Late. And again, it’s because they are the only other books by her that I could find that were labeled as psychological thrillers or suspense.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this book. It had me hooked from the beginning to the end, and I read it while tandem listening to the audio, and the audio was done great as well.
I highly recommend this book. Especially for people who consider most of Colleen Hoover’s stuff to be to fluffy, boring, and mild.
    Well done! ????????

This book started out kind of slow going for me, I found it hard to stick with vs her other books. The story was good and threw you for a loop once you found out what was going on. I think it was just dragged out a bit for me where her other books kept me wanting to turn the next page fast this one I pushed through.
