About this item
Apologetics is for everyone.
The Bible is clear that all believers are called to defend their faith. However, if apologetics is the formal process that we have come to expect, this sounds like an impossible task. But what if apologetics could be part of natural, normal conversation ― both from the pulpit and in everyday life?
Aimed at preparing you to clearly and confidently defend your faith, Expository Apologetics sets forth an approach to apologetics that is rooted in Scripture and eminently accessible. Filled with real-world examples and practical advice, this book will equip you with the tools you need to think biblically and converse persuasively offering unbelievers “a reason for the hope that is in you.”

Voddie says on page 112 in relation to the 10 commandments and our apologetic usage of them: "First, remember, our goal is not to convince people to follow the Ten Commandments. We simply want to show them that (1) the ethical issues about which they are concerned matter to God; (2) because these issues matter to God, they also matter to us; and (3) God has given us a standard by which we may judge these issues - a standard that is outside of and superior to ourselves." He then goes on to mention on page 112 as well that we must rely on the Word of God (Bible), to which I agree. The ten commandments are also used broadly in the new testament and can help our objectors to our faith see the moral implications of God's law. But Voddie stresses the Gospel of Christ throughout his book, affirming that he also is not "ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek". (Romans 1:16)
So Voddie does a good job at exalting God and the Gospel in this book. I would say much more, but my review should be short IMO. I would say this is a well balanced apologetic book, and deserves 5 stars in my judgement. I would recommend this to a fellow Christian, a new Christian even, and even family and friends who believe. Apologetics are for all Christians is a truth I think Voddie stressed as well in this book. peace.
But don't be fooled by his approachability. His references are numerous, and most of them are from well-researched authorities, some of which are fascinating in their antiquity and timelessness. Clearly the mark of a scholar, but the street-smart and directness of a former child growing up in a crime-infested neighborhood. (his life story is briefly outlined in the book, and is absolutely fascinating).
Now, as for achieving his goal of educating the masses on the historicity of the bible, its reliability, and its truth, this book gives a recipe for success that everyone can, with some study, (but not much more than what a child would need to learn), I would say this is successfully achieved.
My only criticism of this book is that its title is a bit too textbookish-sounding that may turn off readers from its wonderful content. I don't know what title would suffice instead, but I'm sure the author has spent much time on the title, and it is perfect for its purpose.
