5.0 out of 5 stars Best debut thriller of ‘24!!

This book.. wow!!! It’s a punch in the gut THRILLER! that takes you on one heck of a ride.. not letting up with sneaky twists and intense earth-shattering omens of what’s yet to come.. till it’s very end. Emiko Jean pulls you in—doesn’t let go.. I could of read 100 more pages. A debut thriller?.. no way! Is exceptionally written and crazy good.???????? Thriller/reads-like-true-crime fans will enjoy this one. 5 stars — Pub. 5/7/24

4.0 out of 5 stars well written, and a good twist at the end.

This book kept me guessing and turning the pages till the end. The main character is interesting, and flawed. But still a character that is believable and fascinating. The plot is complex and well developed. A good read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down!!

I have to affirm with the famous, awesome author Stephen King who stated on the books jacket that "the last fifty pages are magnetic". Like Mr. King, I could not put this book down. Starting it one lazy Friday morning while on vacation and looking for another read to take its place, midmorning of the next day, after a day and a half of mesmerizing and hypnotic thrills. "Return of Ellie Black" was a WAPO recommendation and I strongly agree with the periodical's assessment. Great novel and worth the purchase!

4.0 out of 5 stars A riveting thriller

✨Synopsis:

Detective Chelsea Calhoun receives a call that Ellie Black, who disappeared a few years ago, has been found in Washington’s woods. As Chelsea tries to figure out what happened, she has more questions about Ellie as well as the detective’s sister, who vanished some twenty years ago. Chelsea wants answers not just for those two but desires to prevent another girl from being taken.

✨My thoughts:

The novel felt slow at the start. But half way through, I was hooked and couldn’t put the book down. I had to know what the deal was with Ellie as well as Chelsey’s sister.

3.0 out of 5 stars Page turning story

This book has a great plot, kept me turning the pages and engaged with the characters. However, I give it only 3 stars because I got so sick of the author’s incessant use of the phrase “she waits a beat then…”

There are other words. A moment, a second, she waits, she pauses, etc. The nonstop overuse of the phrase became grating.

Fasten your seatbelt for this one. I couldn’t put it down except when I became too anxious because I felt like I was right there with the characters ( no spoilers here). One of the best books of the year by far.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Return Of Ellie Black

What I like about this book is that it keeps me wanting to get back to it to see what’s going to happen.
It’s very sad to read about the girls and what happened to them. I’m glad that wasn’t glorified because it made it more realistic.
The only unrealistic part was about the last quarter. It was a bit of a twist to read about what actually happened, but it was a stretch to find out who the bad people were.
All in all it was a good book.
