About this item

For fans and watchers of the Beckham Netflix documentary who want the rest of the story—an explosive tell-all account of the real lives of David and Victoria Beckham.

As one of the most famous and influential couples in the world, David and Victoria Beckham have attained iconic status. The ultimate power couple have together built a multi-billion-dollar global brand. For decades, adoring fans have been captivated by the glamorous world they have created, while their unrivaled fusion of showbiz, fashion, sports and celebrity has been cultivated alongside the image of a strong marriage.

When the much-trailed Netflix documentary Beckham aired in 2023, viewers were offered an even more intimate insight into their private lives. Produced by the Beckhams themselves, the series raised many questions, not only about their success and personal relationship, but also about the ruthlessly successful management of their image in the media. Are their lives really as perfect as the Beckhams would like the world to believe?

Through extensive research, expert sourcing and interviews with insiders, Britain’s most celebrated investigative biographer, Tom Bower, has unearthed a succession of revelations that give surprising insight into the reality of ‘Brand Beckham’. Exploring the couple’s relationship, and the truth about their sports and fashion careers, their finances and their new life in Miami, The House of Beckham unravels the extraordinary reality of the business-savvy cultural icons to tell an engrossing, often astonishing story of money, sex and power.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can not put the book down....

Getting the chores of the day accomplished is really hard when you have this book waiting to be read. As an American I knew very little about the Beckhams other than he was an athlete wanting a title from the King of England, and he is a man who had stood in line to pay homage to the Queen at her death. I had heard that she was a singer although the book refutes that. Knowing how great Bower's past books are, I took a chance on this one. Fascinating book! Excellent research that goes back decades. Got to get back to the book. Thank you Mr. Bower.

3.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't 'get into' this book. Disappointing for me.

Although I have read and enjoyed other books by Tom Bower, I didn't finish reading this book. Being American, not understanding the English 'football' and 'jargon' some sentences didn't make sense to me. But that is not Bowers's fault. I wanted to learn more about the Beckhams and their fascination in Britain, what made them popular. This is what I took away from his book: 'The handsome, laid back Beckham played here, then there, then here, then there, is what I get. The uptight, manipulating, jealous Victoria flew here, then there, then here, then there. Really? I suspect Bower has never met the Beckhams let alone interview them for the book. Although I didn't finish the book, I gained no insight whatsoever. However, I am halfway through Victoria's autobiography, Learning to Fly" and love it! Bower's "House of Beckham" not so much.

I have enjoyed this read for the most part. It starts at a little slow, going into a lot of detail about the whole football soccer game since de of their marriage. As David is a famous footballer. I am not a sports fan so I was bored with those chapters. It gets more a little interesting about when it gets into Poshes career and David and her relationship and their children. It’s not the tell bombshell they have portrayed it to be. They do divulge info about David’s affairs when he was living in Madrid alone. All in all I like the Beckham’s. I think they are very respectable family no marriages perfect after 20 something years. This book tried to betray them and a negative light that I don’t think is deserving.

Just started reading, I am ambivalent as I don’t want to learn unsavory bits about them as I loved the documentary on Netflix by them and was taken by their relationship

I finished the book out of habit but I’m not sure I’ve ever read a more biased book about anyone. The author clearly hates the subjects and makes no effort to hide it (while also managing somehow to also show the same level of vitriol for the Sussexes also). Basically they cheat on their taxes (yet they do this by using legal loopholes that somehow it’s their job to fix and not the government’s) and each other and stay together only for each other (while actively hating each other). There’s the book. I just saved you the need to read it.

Important to read this so you don’t think your life isn’t nearly as good as theirs. They have an awful relationship, they’re massive narcissists and selfish, and most would think terrible people.

The documentary is all propaganda and produced by them, the real story is much dirtier

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful, just Awful

I found this difficult to stay interested in, jumping all over the place, couldn't keep track of when or where he was writing about. In fact, I often thought I was reading about Harry & Meghan's antics because there wasn't much difference. It's all about money and make sure you get out of their way. I used to think Becks was okay - now not so much. Nothing surprising about Victoria, she did what I would expect her to do. Yes an actual mirror between the four of them. Waste of money.
