We are brought back to the story of Charlotte and her crew as she races to solve yet another mystery (or mysteries in this case), but this time around she finds herself as suspect numero uno. Sherry Thomas absolutely delivers in this newest installment of the Lady Sherlock series! From the intricate plot to the beautiful way she develops Lord Ingram and Charlotte’s romance throughout the story (and let us not forget the delicious dessert descriptions!).

I knew going in that I wasn’t going to guess the whodunit accurately so I was all in for the ride and what a ride it was. Thomas is an absolute mastermind of slow burn chemistry that makes things feel so natural and not slow at all. I loved watching everything fall into place and seeing things happen right before my eyes and not even know it was happening right before my eyes.

I’m excited to reread this to catch anything I missed on the first go around and to hear Kate Reading’s beautiful narration on audio. If you are looking for a mystery series to get your hands on–this should be your next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars I just love this series

Once again Sherry Thomas has woven a story that defies belief. I marvel at how her brain works that she’s able to leave small hints and tie things back to events that happened a few books ago. Excellent forward momentum on all relationships: family, friends, lovers, coconspirators. God, I just love this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars How does she do this?
Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2024
I started reading this series impressed with the character, Charlotte Holmes, but I admit I have read every book since on the day it came out and my awe is now focused on the author. How does each book get deeper, better? How does she make these beloved characters grow and evolve so beautifully? How does she weave into every story messages about the strength of women and of deeds of conscience? Now its not just Charlotte, Mrs Watson and Livia as our female characters...she's brought along Miss Redmayne, but also great females from previous books have now become an integral part of Team Holmes. I'm amazed. I'm dazzled. I'm enthralled. But there's also a part of me in serious denial about what the end of this series will mean to me. I'm hooked on everyone and I can't bear to think of losing them. Sherry Thomas is a force of nature...A lovely, instructional and entertaining one...but watch out because she has more gravitational pull than a zillion black holes. Way to go...and please DO keep going!!!!
