A beautifully written, thoughtful, raw, real story that everyone should read. Thank you, Mr. Leon, for such an intimate look into your life. You took me through my own journey of listening while being extremely uncomfortable, sitting with white fragility, and really taking in what you were saying both implicitly and explicitly. You are so very talented and the world is better because you're here.

Jesse Leon has written a powerful, raw, and important book. It is a story that will stay with you for years to come. How often do we judge a person when we know nothing of their incomparable circumstances or the hardships they have endured? How much do we truly know about the limitations of poverty, violence, addiction, sex trafficking of children, and bigotry? We can all learn much from Jesse Leon’s emotional and powerful memoir. Written with heart, blood, and tears- I promise “I’m Not Broken” will fill you with sadness, anger, hope, and joy. You will learn, you will be horrified, and you will love this young boy and his courageous journey to manhood finding health, acceptance, and a beautiful life for himself and the people he loves. And he loves many. You will close this book and want to be a friend of Jesse’s. There is no better testimony for a book or author than that they have made a difference and Jesse Leon has done just that.

Although not a literary masterpiece, I’M NOT BROKEN is an emotionally jarring read. To have come through the abuse and confusion of his early years, Jesse is indeed a survivor that few could claim in the wake of the abuse to themselves. Jesse lived HORRIFYING abuse….but he made it and successfully. INCREDIBLE!!!

Met Jesse at a dinner event after his public speaking event. Charming author with a lot of value added elements to his life story. Never to cease to amaze what is possible and where life can go. Jesse is 7 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible journey from the pit of despair to triumph

I was totally riveted to bear witness to the author's narrative of trauma, cultural degradation, challenges with sexual orientation, earning money as a sex worker, and coming close to dying with the extent of his substance abuse. The author truly offers hope to so many others who need to know that there can indeed be a road to recovery.
The masterful writing is truly magnificent. The ability to be so open about his feelings, to enumerate the number of times he fell backward and had helping hands extended, the devastation suffered as such a young boy, all were so brilliantly laid out.

It's not easy hearing this man's story of constant abuse and self-hatred, even though he does eventually rise above it. The miracle of the tale is that he lived to through his first 20+ years. I would have liked to heard more about what he did in adulthood when he had finished his schooling and left the worst of the growing trauma behind. As it is, the book is a rollercoaster of one sadness after another, with a lot of failure and betrayal along the way. The reader knows that there is a lot more story to be told.

The circumstances that led to Jesse Leon's decent into despair are heartbreaking. Chance meetings bring him down and chance meetings facilitate his rise. This memoir is not an easy read emotionally, but so incredibly well written.
