This book turned out to be such a pleasant surprise. I’ve read other books from this author and thought that they were just okay. I went in expecting the same from this one. Not this time. It was such a feel good read, but not overly sweet. There was plenty of conflict and angst. I loved that everything wasn’t immediately resolved and wrapped up with a bow. The characters actually had to do some soul searching. They each faced real life struggles all the way up to the end. The southern hospitality oozed off the page. This book felt like a warm hug from my favorite aunt. I felt a range of emotions as I went on this journey with the sisters. I loved every minute of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sisters and spice and everything between

I have always enjoyed this authors books and the style in which she writes that immerses you to know and picture the characters. In this case it also touched on how a minor misunderstanding that was never discussed caused sisters to lose out on 40 years of sisterhood. However as often happens food brings families together. This book had it all, love, church folks, disappointment, a way to bridge 3 generations for good. all with a side of spice. Very heartwarming. It took a gen ex Kerresha to tell it like it is straight no chaser to call them out while also seeing the genuine love Rose and Marvina had for each other. Loved this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Warm fuzzies

Overall, this book gave me warm fuzzies. It was an uplifting read. Rose is an engaging character who is easy to relate to. The questions about faith and religion are thought-provoking. I was low-key rooting for David. I'm glad I chose this book for my book club to read.

Enjoyed this book, made me laugh and reflect on family issues, that"s really not that big of a deal.

3.0 out of 5 stars One major thing missing

I can't believe the whole book was about a special recipe and the impact it had on people, but the recipe wasn't in the book!

This was good, but I didn't like it as The Chicken Sister's by KJ Dell'Antonia. Similar premise, but I found Rose and Marvina to be unlikable.

This was another great read by Stimpson. Using some real-life situations with sisters, family and Church. Gives a good footprint as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Multicultural Women’s Fiction
Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2024
Sisters with a Side of Greens is multicultural women’s fiction by Michelle Stimpson

Sisters, Rose and Marvina, are at odds but attempting to overcome the past. Their interactions and a new adventure feature in this novel. The writing is strong with vivid dialogue and background narrative. I rate it 4 out of 5 stars and highly recommend it to readers of multicultural fiction.
