WATCH WILL TRENT ON ABC!

“Expect from a Karin Slaughter crime thriller . . . just the right amount of twists, turns, shocks, surprises and domestic thrill and shrill.”Parade

The next thrilling suspense featuring Will Trent and Sara Linton from Karin Slaughter, New York Times bestselling author of Pretty Girls and After That Night!

One toxic family.

Eight suspicious guests.

Everyone is guilty.

But who is a killer?

For GBI investigator Will Trent and medical examiner Sara Linton, McAlpine Lodge seems like the ideal getaway to celebrate their honeymoon. Set on a gorgeous, off-the-grid mountaintop property, it’s the perfect place to unplug and reconnect. Until a bone-chilling scream cuts through the night.

A murderer in their midst

Mercy McAlpine, the manager of the Lodge, is dead. With a vicious storm raging and the one access road to the property washed out, the murderer must be someone on the mountain. But as Will and Sara investigate the McAlpine family and the other guests, they realize that everyone here is lying….Lying about their past. Lying to their family. Lying to themselves.

Who killed Mercy McAlpine?

It soon becomes clear that normal rules don’t apply at McAlpine Lodge, and Will and Sara are going to have to watch their step at every turn. Trapped on the resort, they must untangle a decades-old web of secrets to discover what happened to Mercy. And with the killer poised to strike again, the trip of a lifetime becomes a race against the clock…

Karin Slaughter never disappoints. I plowed through this faster then I wanted to, I wanted to savor it more, go slowly, if I could, since I waited sooo long for this to finally come out. I was jonesing for some more Slaughter already, seems like it's been a couple of yrs now since her last book. Maybe it has? I've read them all, of course, most a couple times. Discovered her early into the Grant County series. Love them all. I wish we got a bit more Sara/Will stuff, but she does that on purpose, I know. Withholds. Occasionally I feel that she adds a bit too many plot twists, 2 try to keep us guessing, not b predictable, etc. Can get a bit too convoluted for my liking. I knew who the killer was at the beginning. No spoilers here though. Keep writing Karin, faster please, haha.
PS. Not crazy about what u allowed them to do w/the Will Trent series. Lead actor is great, story seems well done, I don't have a problem w/changing races of characters, BUT the changed them too much! Amanda + Faith r nothing like their characters and that's just wrong. No Sara 2 ruin, thank God. Least i don't think so. I only watched 1 or 2 episodes. Was too changed for me. I know this isn't Outlander, book or series, so I get it. ????

I've read every one of Karin Slaughter's Will Trent series and wasn't sure that there was a way for them to get better. Then she wrote "This is Why I Lied."

This book was probably the best in the series to date, with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing throughout. Brilliantly written and told with a style that would make Sir Arthur Conan Doyle smile.

Wow. It started slow & a bit confusing-bit of a slow burn until about halfway through. Then the twists kept coming. And they were “twisted” in many directions & senses. Could even be traumatic for some who have experienced abuses of a gross & skin crawling variety.
Just when you think you have it figured out, bam! Nope. Try again. This part made for a page turner and ultimately a satisfying end.

I’ve always liked the books in the Will Trent series and this one has to be the best ever. One murder starts the ball rolling and the suspects are many. So many backstories, so much deception, and so many revelations made this book very good!

So many twists you don't see coming!
    Loved the audio book!
    Loved the ending!
Each character has their own little story but it's not so many stories that you can't keep up!

Karen Slaughter has an amazing ability to introduce many characters, each of doing their own thing and then melding them all together. Her imagination and by far, in a league of its own. Love ALL her books.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a difficult story to read

The characters have few, if any, redeeming characteristics. Flawed is too gentle, most are evil. The plot line is very convoluted and twists like a licorice stick. The ending is a surprise.

I love that Sara adores Will as much as she does, but her determination to not try to change him may be a terrible mistake. He's a good detective, but has blinders that interfere with his professionalism. Sara gently advises him, and he listens to her. Perhaps he will seek out her advice more fully eventually.

If you’re a Karin Slaughter fan, this is required reading for the Will Trent series, but it was a slow, painful path through it. So many broken people and so many doing the shattering. Slaughter’s writing is superb, as always, but the world she invents is a very dark place. The pace picks up in the last half, but it was still slow reading for me because I didn’t want to spend much time with people.
