About this item

One of the most dynamic and globally recognized entertainment forces of our time opens up fully about his life, in a brave and inspiring book that traces his learning curve to a place where outer success, inner happiness, and human connection are aligned. Along the way, Will tells the story in full of one of the most amazing rides through the worlds of music and film that anyone has ever had.

Will Smith’s transformation from a West Philadelphia kid to one of the biggest rap stars of his era, and then one of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood history, is an epic tale — but it’s only half the story.

Will Smith thought, with good reason, that he had won at life: Not only was his own success unparalleled, his whole family was at the pinnacle of the entertainment world. Only they didn't see it that way: They felt more like star performers in his circus, a seven-days-a-week job they hadn't signed up for. It turned out Will Smith's education wasn't nearly over.

This memoir is the product of a profound journey of self-knowledge, a reckoning with all that your will can get you and all that it can leave behind. Written with the help of Mark Manson, author of the multi-million-copy best seller The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, Will is the story of how one person mastered his own emotions, written in a way that can help everyone else do the same. Few of us will know the pressure of performing on the world's biggest stages for the highest of stakes, but we can all understand that the fuel that works for one stage of our journey might have to be changed if we want to make it all the way home. The combination of genuine wisdom of universal value and a life story that is preposterously entertaining, even astonishing, puts Will the book, like its author, in a category by itself.

I’ve finished reading this book and oh my it's so good. I love how Will is playing music in the background, re-enacting the voices of other people, and the purpose behind his name Will. I love the realness, the rawness, and comedy of the book so far. I admire his mother for her strength, and I love the fact that he grew up knowing his grandmother and allowing her wise words of faith be instilled in him.
It's something about owning up to your mistakes from past relationships, I personally find it attractive.

My favorite chapter of this book is the Love Chapter:

To love and to be loved is the highest human reward of ecstasy.
Love is: Discovering, cultivating, and sharing our uniques gifts for the purpose of uplifting and empowering our loved ones.

"Will" by Mark Manson is an insightful and thought-provoking book that delves into the topic of willpower and how it can be harnessed to achieve our goals and live a more fulfilling life.

One of the strengths of the book is Manson's writing style, which is both engaging and easy to understand. He presents complex ideas in a way that is accessible to a wide range of readers, and his writing is filled with personal anecdotes and practical examples that help to illustrate his points.

Another strength of the book is its focus on the importance of self-discipline and the role it plays in achieving our goals. Manson provides a fresh perspective on the topic of the willpower, and he offers a range of strategies and techniques for building self-discipline and staying motivated.

Overall, "Will" is a valuable and informative book that provides a new perspective on the topic of willpower. It is a must-read for anyone looking to improve their self-discipline and achieve their goals.

I would rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. The book is well written and easy to understand, it provides valuable insight on the topic of the willpower, but some readers might find it a bit repetitive and lacking originality in some parts of the book.

This book was everything. I can’t help but call him Uncle Will & his wife Aunt Jada from now on and add meeting him and his family to my bucket list.

I’m proud of his self awareness that he later develops because he had none. He was running off of autopilot from military teachings his dad taught and people pleasing to feel loved. That part was mind blowing.

I’m a person heavy in self growth and spirituality and I’m only 31. It took him his 40’s and his family drifting for him to be aware of himself and want to change so I feel happy I’m on the right path while I’m young.

I loved every page. He actually reminded me of my own man and my own relationship with his military principles applied to life.

I think everybody wants to know the behind the scenes more than the glitz and glamour and will tells the before the during and after.
Even being rich and famous doesn’t close the holes to places you never healed or realized needed healed.

The last line of the book sums up the whole book!

I love you Uncle Will and Aunt Jada *wink* thanks for leaving a blueprint for me. See you in Hollywood soon.

This book is def for the dreamers. The self aware. And the creatives

First, I’d like to mention that just about all of the negative reviews were written after the infamous Oscar slap. Most, if not all gave no honest account of the memoir at all. I highly recommend ignoring them all, because the book was a biographical masterpiece. Oprah didn’t say it was the best memoir she’d ever read for nothing. It really is that good. I was so impressed with Will’s impeccable ability to illustrate all of the events of his life with such humor, insightfulness and vivid detail. He is a masterful storyteller, and his command of the English language in creating a visual for the reader is truly impressive. Will is so vulnerable and authentic, and really put his heart out there for the world to either embrace or crush. After reading, I believe his thoughts about how he believes he failed all the women in his life is quite likely what lead to that slap. It’s clear that he suffers from some insecurities that he’s tried to overcompensate for with his almost picture perfect career in entertainment. The world needs to just give this man a little grace and stop with the continued moral lynching. I enjoyed every page, and although it’s well over 400 pages, it was so well written and flowed like the best poetry. If you’re a real Will Smith fan or just someone who understands good people sometimes do things they aren’t proud of, you’re in for such a treat in this memoir. Relax and enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Mark! Love Will! Had to read it!

I have read both of Marks books, hardbound no less, and found them hilarious! I am also on the receiving end of his M.F. Monday inspirational emails. Also hilarious, and informative!

I have enjoyed watching Will go from the youth of D.J. Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince to an action hero saving the world! He has always been exceptionally gifted and this book is just another example of his vast artistic talents.

I have never really been interested in famous people's personal lives. I don't think it is anyone's business what anyone else does when they go home after work. I found this felt more like a biographical story of Will's career accomplishments, which is the part of actor's lives that we should care about, with a bit of personal info for background stage setting for each story.
