5.0 out of 5 stars Gas mileage improvement is the only reason you need to try it

I purchased the K&N washable air filter to replace my air filter recently. Right off I noticed it seemed to weight just a little more than the OEM. It also felt more substantial. After a few tanks of gas I can say it works very well on my 2010, 4.6L Toyota Tundra. It was easy to install in place of the OEM Toyota filter. I checked the reviews before purchasing this filter, knowing it would be easy to return it to Amazon.com if problems arose. I experienced no problems. I had read in the reviews about some folks having noise problems associated with installing this filter on the 5.7L engine. Gas mileage on my first trip using this filter was very good. My 32-valve V8, 4.6L, 2-wheel drive Tundra usually gets between 18-MPG and 19.5-Highway MPG on highway driving. I got 22.7 MPG on my first highway trip. That was driving an average of 74 MPH with 3-adults in the truck. The city mileage went from my usual 17-MPG to a respectable 18.6-MPG. About half of my short trips are 25-miles round-trips to lumber centers and such. While the other half of my short trips are of the 2-miles, round-trips to town for groceries and hardware stores. Not a way to get good mileage and I was kind of surprised that it increased to 18.6. My boat towing MPG is very standard and did not increase using the K&N air filter. 13-MPG towing an old deck boat on a combination of hilly country roads and highway towing. I've made a dozen trips towing the same boat and people to the same lake, and mileage both before and after installing the new air filter was same. All and all I am very happy with my K&N air filter. A few guys in my family will be buying K&N filters for their trucks soon.

I have heard of K&N for awhile and finally made bought one and the difference is night and day. It will fit the stock air box no problem. My truck has been modified so I have a cavern R muffler so performance may be different from stock exhaust. My truck gained some hp very time I get on the gas response has been smother and faster. This also improved my exhaust note. I also gained better gas milage in the city and on the highway. This is a reusable filter and there is a kit with instructions also a video on how to clean it. This should help save me some money and I love it. Worth a try and Definity will buy again

5.0 out of 5 stars Toyota Tundra 4.6L 2011. Wasn't Expecting Much,…was I Surprised Updated Dec 2017
Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2014
*****Update dec 2017: No issues at all, still great mileage! Saving me lots of money...even more whenl gas goes to $8.00 a gallon!

Excellent! Perfect fit and seal around the lip of the filter. I am comparing performance to a brand new stock Toyota dealer supplied filter. Wasn't expecting much. Was I surprised & this filter delivered impressive results.

1. No low /high speed noise or whine on my 4.6L v8. In fact, just a quiet, mellow rumble that really sounds great. Nothing radical, just sounds like it should for a big, powerful engine running well.

2. Situation where I notice the biggest difference is in town, low speed, starting from stops, and especially when the engine is still cold. It's like the engine was driving with it's nose stopped up but now, the sound is clear and flowing. By that I mean when engine is cold or starting from a stop, any hesitation is gone. It breaths right through it. Engine does not sound stopped up and interestingly, the transmission shifts more smoothly, too. Not sure how the air filter plays into that but smarter tranny shifting is a definite result and improvement e.g. it tends to release /shift into a lower gear sooner, which increases mileage in and of itself. MY dash MPG gauge reflects the difference I am hearing in sound and shifting leads to higher MPG.

3. I have an instantaneous and average MPG gauge and I can see in all my driving situations (no trailer or big load) getting 2-3 MPG more. That's a 10-15% increase. I am impressed. But with my MPG gauge, I have a highly trained foot with no lead.

4. Highway cruising under 57mph is 24mpg flat highways; over 60 & MPG drops noticeably. Combined mileage 18-21 MPG on this big Tundra.

Maintenance: Says it's good for 50k miles. You don't have to clean & re-oil until then. I bot their kit for 10$ that comes with a cleaner spray, oil spray, and clear instructions. I would sugg using the SPRAY oil to recharge the filter and not the oil in a spout bottle where you have to drip it onto all the filter folds. A Spray is MUCH quicker and more uniform. So it comes either way as a spray or in a drip bottle & price is about the same so not a factor.

Overall I am really pleased. At a price of 40$ incl shipping I cannot think of a negative. After ordering my filter I noticed the price went up 30% for no apparent reason. The 4.6 Tundra just rolls easier,... and it's like a rag was taken out of it's nose with the K&N 33-2387 filter and the engine can finally breathe!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good filter and pays for itself

I just installed on my 08 Toyota Tundra double cab 4x4 limited. I have had them in the past. Remains to be seen about gas mileage savings. As for extra HP you really can't tell. As for whistle or whine people have complained about. I really have not noticed it. Maybe heard something ever so slightly once. Maybe it was in my head ???? I have a Borla catback so my exhaust is a little louder so maybe why I do not hear anything. Who knows. Any way it pays for itself eventually. K&N is quality

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Filter. Exposes design flaw with 5.7 L Toyota Sequoia and Tundra which can be resolved
Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2013
Pros:

Excellent filter with excellent airflow to your engine.

Will last longer than the vehicle with routine cleaning and spray oil, so saves money in the long haul.

Cons:

Not a "Con" for this filter.. a "Con" for Toyota: Installing this filter exposes a flaw with the Toyota 5.7 Liter engine, where a very high pitch sound is generated by a metal mesh located behind the throttle body. The OEM filter masks this noise (likely becuase of its density and restricting airflow). To correct this, remove the two bolts holding the throttle body to the intake manafold (after first removing the air filter housing) and then use a pair of wire snips to clip out the wire mesh from the gasket behind the throttle body. Replace and high pitch noise goes away. (I installed a new stereo arround the same time as this filter and thought the noise was the radio... very high pitch and sounded like it was from the speakers inside the cabin... enough to drive someone crazy looking for it).
