Epoxy Putty

SteelStik is a hand-mixable, steel-reinforced, non-rusting epoxy putty that quickly repairs or rebuilds anything made of metal. After mixing, it forms an industrial-strength polymer compound that can be molded into shapes or used to build up, patch and repair steel components. SteelStik sets in 3-5 minutes and after 60 minutes, can be drilled, tapped, machined, ground, filed and painted. SteelStik cures to a dark grey color, is rated at a tensile strength of 900 PSI and will withstand temperatures up to 300ºF.

Additional Attributes

Chemical resistant against petroleum, hydraulic fluids and may other harsh chemicals when fully cured.
NSF Certified – Safe for contact with potable water.
Can resist continuous temperatures of 300°F (149°C) intermittent temperatures of 450°F (232°C).

Great when duct tape and glue won't work.

Very strong and sticks well. I used some to make hooks for my outdoor concrete wall, and attached a light net to it to keep hawks and owls away from my cats. (I saw hawks watching them and got freaked out.) We live in an apartment where we can't drill holes into the concrete in order to hang things. This epoxy putty was perfect. I molded the hooks with a 180 degree curve so the net can't slip off in the wind. They dried in just a few hours.

I wouldn't hang anything heavy from my hommade hooks, and I wouldn't trust the net I hung to stand up to pressure, or cat-escapes, but I just needed the hooks to stay in place through wind-storms and rain. We live on the third floor so I'm not worried about kitty-escape-artistry. If a bird-of-pray does try to attack them my thin net will tangle it up long enough for the cats to run away. So far, I guess the hawks saw the net because they are no longer starring at my balcony like a restaurant-menu (although I still hear them all the time. I hear great horned owls too.)

I also used a good amount of this putty to wrap around a power cube outlet (indoor.) The conuit is split at the joint, exposing the wires inside (which still have their individual wraps in tact.) Tape won't hold it together in this case, because the cable moves too much. I wrapped the putty along the cable, over the break, and then molded fingers to extend around the cube. It works well, and the wires are protected again. $$ saved!

The versatility of the SteelStik is amazing. I got my first tube years ago and, experimentally, used it to patch up a dryer drum that had a large rip in it. After a fairly brief drying period, I sanded it down and reinstalled the drum. It held together beautifully for more than a year, after which the drum started to pull apart in a new place and it was time to just give up and get a new dryer.

This most recent tube, the SteelStik was nice and soft, easy to mix and prep, and was used to reinforce the cracked casing for a bathroom fan. After a little bit of initial cleaning and drying, the SteelStik adheres well and can be sanded within 30 minutes or so.

This is just great stuff to keep around in case you need an emergency patch or fix.

JD Weld - True to claims!

I thought this piece of yard art was destined for the trash. JD Weld Stick saved the day. The pliability of the product allowed me to mold the legs of the owl to the crossbar. True to the instructions, within 5 minutes, it hardened enough to hold the owl on the bar so it could sit there in the breeze to finish curing. Thank you for this product.

I picked up this epoxy putty for trying my hand at creating a bendable wire armature animation puppet. The instructions are clear and concise, and it works perfectly. Definitely wear gloves, and slice the putty rather than just pulling it off to ensure the right proportions, and it'll do exactly what it's supposed to. I recommend doing so in a space with adequate ventilation, not so much out of toxicity concerns, but due to the smell. It's honestly pretty indescribable, apart from it being very unpleasant. It's surprisingly forgiving to sculpt with, giving you a good window of time before it bonds and solidifies. Once you've got it set, it'll heat a bit and then you've got a rock solid bond. I've bought this multiple times now, and will continue to do so.

Be ready for the smell, when you first start kneading the putty to mix the 2 parts, it really stinks.
You get ~5 min before it starts to "kick" and harden, so maybe work with smaller quantities. You'll know when that starts because the putty starts to get pretty warm when the chemical reaction happens to harden it.
Once it sets, it's solid, can be sanded and painted.

I found this product very difficult to work with. It was hard to get flat and smooth. I also had problems getting it to adhere to the metal I was patching. Because of that, it dried very lumpy. The rest of the (small) tube dried before I could use it - and the few holes were only a little larger than a pinhole.
