Works well, be prepared for the mess

I used this to fix open area after using 3M double sided tape to fit a spoiler on my Supra. There was only one area that had an open area and if I kept it open more dirt and water would go in. It looks super good when done but it’s very very messy. I removed the tape probably around 15 minutes, and it was still in its liquid phase. And boy was it messy. At that point, I wanted to have a cleaner line and I wanted the finish line to sit more underneath the spoiler, but anything I did at this point was smearing. I think it's better to sit and wait until it reaches the rubber phase for cleanup. It's pretty spot on about the timing at the 45 minute to 1 hour mark when it gets to be more rubbery in consistency. That's when I did the best cleanup. I used a small cup of water and dipped a glove-wrapped plastic trim remover (best not to use metal because it'll scratch your paint) and started pushing the edges of the silicone to a straight line. This will leave small smear marks, but it's way easier to clean up at the rubber phase, which I use alcohol pads to help wipe, and still at this point it wipes smeared silicone very easily.

Great for speaker butyl rubber surround repair

Cat sliced open my one of the butyl rubber surrounds on my center channel during some spirited playtime.

After looking online most answers said the same thing: get some flexible silicone adhesive.

Picked up Permatex 81158 Black Silicone Adhesive Sealant (it was the only one on AMZN with a speaker review) based on reviews, cost and ship time.

It looks bad/chunky/sloppy (I applied with a small paint brush, it is very thick and sticky) but it's super flexible and was easy to apply over the slice (I did not take the speaker apart); I did two applications just to make sure, probably could have gotten away with one.

It's also a center speaker so it's not moving a lot of air, I've never even seen the rubber surrounds move on this speaker, even at high volumes I'd never use regularly.

A Bit Expensive for the Tube Size

This stuff is too expensive for a paltry 3oz. I'm trying to patch a crack in an RV water tank and I used half the tube real quick. After that dries, I'll use the rest. If I run out, I'll buy a caulk tube of something else and move on from dainty tubes. I only bought it because I didn't want the clutter of a large tube of adhesive. Bad decision.

Finished dry product is just a little bit softer than the ultra black product.

Adhesion between the two surfaces I was sealing is very high, and the included tip makes application very easy to the surface.

Overall, this provides a great seal with minimal messiness

Easy to work with, holds in Florida heat.

The rear sliding window on my F250 has an upper and lower slide track. The upper track is held on by 5 or 6 adhesive strips about 1.5 inches each. After 4 years in the Florida sun the strips gave out and the upper track came loose allowing the sliding glass to fall inside the truck. After removing the track and cleaning the surface I applied this adhesive and its holding rock solid. It’s had some heavy storm winds blow on the window and I figured if it was going to fail it’s during storm winds. Not the case. Held up really well during several storms and still strong as ever. A very strong and easy to work with adhesive. Highly recommend.

Very difficult to squeeze out of the tube

I think pretty much all of this RTV sealant stuff is messy. Silicone compounds dissolve in almost nothing, so don’t expect alcohol or acetone to get it off your hands. Best thing to do is use a paper towel to wipe off as much as you can from your hands or anything else you don’t want it on, then use that auto mechanics pumice hand cleaner stuff to scrub the rest off it off (it won’t dissolve it but the pumice will scrub the rest off).

But this particular product or batch of the product seems unusually difficult to squeeze out of the tube. If this is normal then it should come in a different container like a syringe type thing rather than a tube. I had to use one of those chubby kids pencils as a roller to roll up the end and add leverage to my hand to squeeze it.

Otherwise it seems to be fine but note that it isn’t recommended for gasket replacement or car windshield sealing because there are specialized formulas for those conditions.
