Perfect gate for my needs

Extremely easy to install without the need for drilling or any tools. I added one of the extensions which was also very easy. Looks great. Opens easily with one hand. Great value for the money.

Works great, doesn't need permanent mounting

I have 4 kids so I'm not a noob to baby gates. That said, we do have a dog that we like to keep out of certain areas of the house, especially when guests are staying over as he has a tendency to "mark his territory" but only when people are staying with us. He isn't a pushy dog, meaning he's not going to challenge a gate or jump over it.
I got this gate specifically for a few reasons:
- wide opening - the opening in question is 46" and not many walkthrough gates can expand that far
- it doesn't require hardmounting, meaning noting screws into the wall/walkway unless you want to (even the included doublestick pads aren't necessary)
- the walkthrough feature works either way
- tensioning/adjustment seems easy
Installation was a breeze; there are 2 side extensions in the box, just choose your width and select the number of extensions you need (consult easy chart/assembly instructions provided), move around some of the included inserts, put in the tensioning assemblies (bolts with rubber pads on the end), put in the opening, and tension away. The trickiest part is getting the tension right on both sides of the gate such that it doesn't bow or otherwise throw the entire thing out of alignment or the latch mechanism won't line up. As I mentioned, you don't have to use the included "cups" that adhere (or screw) to the wall/jamb - the adjustment tensioning pads are rubber so they grip the wall fairly well anyway.
What might be an issue for some is that the latch is a compound one and does not autolock simply by shutting the gate - it requires you to manually latch/lock it every time. So, I'm not sure I'd use this where you need an easy walktrough and relock. At the top/bottom of stairs it might be tricky as well (e.g. if you're carrying something).
All in all a good gate that looks nice, was easy to install and didn't break the bank.

I have had dogs since 1975 (two at a time since 1987), and I bought two of these gates to open & close (to allow & prohibit access) to my walk-through kitchen -- recently remodeled. This is the 5th set of gates I have owned, and they seem durable enough to last the next 10-20 years if I don't misplace any of the components. "Anything worth doing is worth doing well." These gates are high-quality, easy to install, simple to operate [with safety locking red/green latch feature], seem secure & safe for dogs and people (just don't trip on bottom portion if you don't mount it flush with ground). I have nothing bad to say about them, except that I may need to paint around the areas on doorway where I drew circles to mark mounting locations. One more thing: the manufacturer seems to have even built quality in the easy-to- read/follow illustrated instruction pamphlet that comes with each gate -- which beats going on-line or reading some poorly written instructions that come with some products. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND, and I am glad I found this good product at an affordable cost.
Keep up the good work, Safety 1st -- high quality design & parts, and not cutting corners.

Easy installation; not secure to wall

The media could not be loaded.
I would NOT put this at the top of stairs since the pieces that are on the walls are slick, not rubbery, and do not cling. Pressure over 15lbs or so will make this gate move. A toddler, medium dog, or someone trying to get through and losing balance would definitely risk displacing the gate from its placement, and falling down the stairs. If the gate can be placed at the bottom of the stairs, away from the staircase, but blocking access, that would be the best location. The other option is finding another attachments online that anchor the gate to the wall with permanence, like long wood screws or drywall mounts.
The latch need to be worked in two steps. 1. Push a spring loaded button 2. Press a spring loaded button. The springs are hard for arthritic thumbs to work. There are screws on one side of the latch where the mechanism can be accessed and replaced. I like this feature.
The gate can open in two directions, but small stoppers on the bottom of the gate can be flipped down to secure the gate to be only accessible from one side. This is a nice feature for stairs, if you anchor it properly. It is also nice when you have small dogs who want to dart through it. Opening it towards them gives them less of a chance to dart through.
As far as how "sturdy" this gate is, it is as sturdy as it will be treated. If a 100lb dog jumps on it day after day, it won't last. If 5 people are passing through it 25 time EACH every day, it will not last long. However, for pricepoint, and material(not wooden, not all metal, not professionally installed), it is more sturdy than I expected. The bars are bigger in diameter than I expected, and they are welded in place on a metal framed gate door. Many gate have the bars loose, and many have one side of the gate being plastic.
This gate has replaced a piece of unpainted, old, plywood. After a year of moving it back and forth, I decided this was better. The plywood protected the molding from the puppy through teething, and allowed her to scratch to no avail when she was left in the kitchen. This gate will hold her in, and will allow easier access to each room. It took me a total of 20 minutes to unbox, remove the plywood to the garage, place the 4 pressure pieces in place, get all four pressures to work to make the gate frame square, and then to clear away the box, two extra rods and plastic extensions for a larger doorframe. My doorframe is only 29 inches wide because this is an older home, ranch style. I did not need to read the directions to install this gate - it is simple.

Sturdy and Very Easy to Operate
Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2024
The gate seems very sturdy and it was very easy to install and operates well. We like the option to open in one direction or another or in both directions (see circle on image). This is particularly useful if using on stairway openings.
This is not our first and only child safety gate, but it is our favorite so far!

Great for toddlers, babies, & pets learning how to move around
Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2024
Easy installation instructions, perfect size for measurements mentioned in description. Can even be used for pets. Easy 2 point opening mechanism. Impossible for baby or toddler to open with secure 2 point mechanism. Cannot be pushed open no matter how hard. Tall enough to not be climbed over by young child or baby. 10/10 recommend for anyone with pets or toddler or a baby just learning how to move around
