5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use. Strong chemical odor. Works great alone or as a curing gel base coat.
Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2024
I've been using a light curing liquid gel for a number of years. I do want to say this powder dip system is easier to use, and possibly quicker for application. As for longevity, it's too early to tell, however, the final result feels quite rigid. Regular liquid gel I can only get about 2 weeks as my nails are soft & flex easily, so regular gel separates from, or chips off of, the nail tip as it still allows for some flex.

One drawback - I'm not slow at applying the topcoat, but apparently it starts setting up REALLY quickly and with my first use, I've gummed up 2 of the applicator brushes, which started as I was applying the top coat. The kit comes with 2 extras, as well as the one in the cleaner bottle, but at this rate, with my second use of the kit, I may very well run out of spares. Hopefully, the cleaner will help correct the gumming of the original brushes.

Another drawback - both the base coat & the top coat are chemically strong smelling and create a strong burning sensation to the eyes. This is likely more my problem, as my progressives don't give me a good focal point for doing my nails, therefore I have to remove them and have my eyeballs about 10-12" away from my nails to be able to focus on the job. Plus, I have a dry eye issue to compound the problem, so they don't tear easily. Also, the activator is unpleasant smelling, but this disappears by the time the activated curing ends.

Oh, the stamp doesn't come with the kit. It's a gel stamp from a kit, purchased a few months back, that I cured between 2 top coats. I wasn't sure if it would work, so was pleased to see success when using with this dip kit. Since dip is new to me, am not sure what other liquid gel options will cross over besides applicables like gems, stripe tape, etc., but it will be fun to experiment.

Update - June 2024 - I've found that using dip under a liquid gel coat allows me to be a bit more creative while getting an extra week of wear out of the work. What's even better is if I'm running short on time to complete the task, I can do the whole dip process, wear it that way for a day or two, then come back with the light curing liquid gel process to top it off. And, I just use a different topcoat that doesn't cure as quickly, so no more ruined brushes.

Tips: If you want try this process, I do no more than 2 dips (to prevent it becoming too thick for the final result) and complete the dip steps with the dip top 2 coats. I then use the buffing file at 1000 grit to lightly "scuff" the whole surface of the topcoat, use the gel nail cleaner solution to clean the dipped nail surface, then proceed to do the gel process starting with the base coat as if starting with a fresh nail. Then I design what I want. Holds up a good 3 weeks unless I do any projects that are particularly hard on nails in general.
A bonus is, if I'm pressed for time, I can complete the dip process, go do stuff, come back a couple of hours or days later, and then get creative with a curing gel. I find this works better than a building gel to protect my nails.
To remove, I file down into the dip layers, then use petroleum jelly to protect my fingerstips (skin application), in a bowl, I use a heated rice pack to "warm" the acetone gel remover, submerge my nails for 10-15 minutes, then clear off the gel. Resubmerge if necessary to remove residue. This has been the kindest process for both my fingers & the nail beds.

4.0 out of 5 stars I like this kit so far
Reviewed in the United States on January 1, 2025
I am new to the dip powder world but so far I'm impressed with this kit. The selection of dip powders is awesome. I do think this kit is great for beginners. Every issue i had so far with this kit was user error. The liquids are thinner, which i liked. The dry time i would say was in between fast and medium dry time so it did give me time to put the powders where I wanted them. I can't comment on how long these will last because I'm so new to dip powder and I know if they didn't last long it would be due to something I've done verses the product itself. Regardless the whole kit itself is well worth the money and is way cheaper than going to the salon. To be honest even with my minor mess ups, it's still just as good as coming out of the salon. I've paid way more for not so great results at the salon. The smell of the liquids is a little strong but that's just annoying, not really a problem for me

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy DIY dip manicure

This kit is great - it has everything you need to get started doing your own dip nails. This picture is of my first attempt doing my nails and I’m really pleased with how it turned out! The kit came with a lot of colors and all the tools you need. My only complaint is that I wish it came with a book that showed the color the dip polish will be once it’s finished. The powder is not exactly the same hue so you kind of have to guess or look at the image on Amazon to guess which tube of powder matches the colors shown in the preview. Otherwise it’s great and I look forward to trying out the other colors!

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok for starting out but colors don’t match and brushes are not good
Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2024
I’m really impressed because I’ve been doing my own manicure for years with regular polish and was hesitant to try something else until I decided to give this kit a try. In general, I think it’s a good starter kit but the quality of the brushes is inferior. I’m used to good quality brushes so it was a struggle at first. The bottles are tiny and not very sturdy so I spilled the activator and will probably run out of liquids pretty soon. I’ve done my own and a few other people and it ends up looking quite professional.

Mine lasted 3 weeks and I mainly had to remove it because my nails grow so fast. Only one of them ended up cracking but everything else was ok. It kept them sturdy and my nails still looked healthy when I removed it. The method that works the best for me is by soaking them in acetone for 20 min, then they melt and come off like butter. No need to use harsh tools or anything, when I see they need a little more, I just soak the cotton a bit longer in the aluminum foil and a few minutes later everything comes off. Acetone is not very good for your skin so make sure you hydrate your hands after this.

One of my biggest disappointments is that the colors don’t match the image chart provided here. It has color codes and when I select some I expect it to look like the picture but it’s not just a little bit different; it ends up looking completely different. The last one I used was 265 and instead of looking pink it looks purple.

Overall, this is decent but not perfect.

I’ve done 2 sets now and i am very impressed! The first set (red) i kinda rushed and fumbled my way through and the lasted a week and chipped a few times. However i definitely earned those chips lol. The second set i am on day 10 and am getting verrry light lifting and it’s noticeable or catching on anything. I am gonna change them out after thanksgiving cause i cant handle the grow out look but they are very sturdy and would last longer im sure. Take your time, look up building an apex with the clear polish, prep your nail before hand, and you will love this dip set! Application is easier than expected and dries fast too.
