  • Connection Issue
    Connectivity:
This review is a bit late but comes after finding some issues with connectivity. The unit is doing everything advertised but frequently has an LED flashing amber indicating a connection issue. This I believe is due to its wired connection to a nested router, which Arlo clearly suggests should not be used. I could move it to the router directly connected to the modem but this limits coverage for my cameras. I have read reviews complaining of problems viewing local recordings. I can easily see Live View and recorded clips through the smartphone app with no need to disconnect the USB stick. The unit description is inaccurate saying you can use either MicroSD or USB. There is only USB, but it works flawlessly. Though the flashing amber has been worrisome, I clearly have the unit connected in a way Arlo discourages, thereby not their fault. I give it 5 stars for reliable performance and ease of use. You could pay a subscription for cloud recording but have never seen a charge per camera as one review stated, but rather per system. The USB stick makes this unnecessary. Bravo to Arlo for building in this feature that doesn't make them any money.
  • This is an iOS user must have!!!
Works great! There are 2 reasons I purchased the Arlo smart hub. Reason 1, it enables the ability to add the cameras to Apple HomeKit, so now when someone rings the doorbell cam, it comes up on the Apple TV. Reason 2, you can plug an external SSD or USB flash drive into the hub, and then you can enable local camera feed recordings. I have a 2TB SSD plugged into the hub, so now the camera feeds are stored both locally, and in the cloud. Before it only recorded to the cloud (which requires a monthly subscription). There is also a big difference in the load times when viewing recordings. It loads much faster since activating to hub. Note- if you already set up and connected your cameras to WiFi, you will have to delete them from your account, then go through set up again to connect them to the hub. Hope this helps!
  • Works good, but you need subscription to get a good service.
I had another set of these cameras/hub 4 years ago, and I liked it. I bought this one hoping to get the same level of service. I came to find out that I need a hub to be able to record my videos, so I ended up buying a hub and after buying it, I found out that I needed to buy a USB drive. And now the videos are saved in a different place than they were used to be saved and they are not classified between the different cameras, they are all in the same folder. Also, I added my wife to the account so that she could monitor the system in her phone as well, and came to find out that when you save to a hub, only the main account can see the videos, only one person can monitor.
I do not know if ARLO just changed and they are now trying to get more money from us, but it used to not be like this, but now, I am very, very disappointed at what I get now with ARLO. If I buy a security system ( i.e. cameras ) I should be able to do exactly that... I pretty much bought useless cameras... that is it.
  • Excellent value and quality.
Excellent quality and easy to install.
  • Can not Connect to newer Cameras
I bought this Arlo Pro SmartHub (VMB4540), so I don't have to pay a 7$ monthly subscription for the cloud storage, but unfortunately, it fell short in a critical area. While it connected to the same network as the new camera I purchased, I ran into a frustrating issue—it wouldn't play back any recordings. This defeats the purpose of having a SmartHub if I can't access stored videos or review footage.

The setup process was straightforward, and the device integrated well initially. Still, the playback problem, combined with the lack of a timely solution from Arlo, makes this a frustrating experience.

I reached out to Arlo's support team for help, and they informed me that the issue is due to the firmware not being updated to support my new camera yet. They said I can do nothing but wait until they release a firmware update. It's disappointing that a product marketed as compatible with newer cameras will not be usable until Arlo resolves this issue. Until they address this firmware issue, I can't recommend this product for anyone with newer Arlo cameras.
  • Small Slick Unit
Love the fact it’s summer slim and takes up no room. Easy to install all you need to do is connect to local wifi and add camera. Only comes with two cord one for internet and power supply. The down fall about recording is that you need a usb or harddrive to connect into the unit for storage. Pictures is decent can’t complaint much since it’s a smaller unit. I did find it hard to connect or find my cameras first couple times then I had to hard reset it then it connects. Overall decent and easy storage. It’s good for instant view rather than long term storage.
  • Works really well and was easy to install and operate.
This works surprisingly well. I moved into a house with a super old system already installed but no basement station. I just plugged it in and paired the devices and I was up and running with a fully functioning self-tracking system in one hour!
  • It works
My old base station broke and I got this to replace it. All of my cameras (all essential spotlights) connected easily and quickly. It does seem faster than my old base station, which was an older version. It might be a coincidence but I did notice my cameras are dying faster, and I wonder if it could be from the base station... but im not entirely sure, it just happened around the same time, so I can't take a star off for that. It is abnormally pricey, so is all Arlo equipment.
