- rwgunnEasy learning curve for a multi-function domestic sewing machineI recently decided to revisit my old hobby of sewing. I had a perfectly okay Brother sewing machine but the more I was using it, the more I became conscious of the many functions that newer sewing machines have that mine definitely didn’t. Some of the features that I won’t be willing to do without that this machine has include snap-on/snap-off presser feet, making a switch from one stitch type to another a matter of seconds rather than minutes; a drop-in bobbin that removes the need to fiddle with the upper thread/needle to pull up the bobbin thread before starting to sew as well as virtually ending the common problem of the bobbin thread snagging inside the machine; a library of stitches that come pre-programmed with optimal stitch length and width… selecting a stitch always starts with the preferred default values every time you select it; a better design for the the upper thread loading. They have somehow designed the unit so that the thread will automatically find itself on the correct side of the path being threaded instead of, as my older machine needed, requiring me to fiddle with flywheel on the right of the machine to get the different parts in the correct orientation to pass the thread around the parts correctly.; a built-in overstitch stitch for fray-prone fabrics; and lastly, the option to either use the foot peddle to control the speed of the stitches or choose to use the programmable stitch speed control for those of us who find their excitement, anxiety, or simple lack of patience leading to what feels like a high-speed chase where your current stitches are the barely in control car careening around the mountainous ess-curves, inches away from flying off into the valley below. This machine is well made, well designed, and wonderfully lightweight. I think it is a great starter machine for those wanting to learn the skills and tricks of sewing.
- Rhonda OlsonLove!!Love this machine. It’s everything that was promised in the description. Easy to set up, works great! So happy I finally replaced my old machine
- Gail McIntoshVery nice updated machine.Really great machine. Takes a little getting used to if you have had a basic machine. The reverse button is a little cumbersome but you will learn. The bobbin is easier and you can see it! The foot it comes with is a little weird as the opening is to the left. Well built and hope to have for years. This is only for light weight fabrics. I had it go through 3 pieces of cotton quilt plus a soft batting and it pounded like it didn't want to. Not heavy duty. But great for every day. Advise, look on line for how to video's on how to set up and run this machine.
- CraigAndKelly2019Would buy it againSuper easy to use. It does come with a top but the top does not latch which didnt matter to me since I don’t travel with mine. Bobbin loading is easy as well as the needle threading feature (once you get used to it. The only feature I do not like is the back stitch. I’m used to pressing the peddle and it moving quickly, on this machine you press a button and it slowly back stitches. It’s okay now that I’m used to it but I still prefer the other way.
- Memaw and PapawGood machineI purchased a refurbished model and wound the bobbin and tried to thread the machine but I couldn’t get the take up lever to the highest point as the machine was frozen! The hand wheel would not move. I turned it off and on. I removed the throat plate and used the brush to see if there’s was lint or a thread caught. I read the manual and continued to get error 6 and the machine vibrated. I’ve sewn for 50 years and never had a machine perform this way. Although the proper way to turn the hand wheel is always counter clockwise, I gently turned it clockwise for several rotations and the back counterclockwise and the machine unlocked. I was able to get the take up lever in the correct position and threaded the machine. The needle threader worked perfectly. The stitch quality was perfect and the machine hummed. I was about to throw it in the trash but a few minutes later it was sewing like a dream machine.
- A. FisherCompared to another machine, I went with the brandNeeded a lighter machine to take to my quilt club. Works great, even bought a walking foot. Runs smooth with even stitches. Price fit my budget.
- Russell BouletI love this sewing machine!I’m not proficient at sewing. But I like doing it. My old Singer is over 30 years old and did a fine job.
Then, alas, it was time to replace it. I ordered this Brother Sewing machine assuming that it would do what my old one did. I was wrong!
This machine is amazing! It was easy to learn how to use it, and to set it up. From the needle always ending in the down position, making sewing so much easier. To the needle threader, (this gave me my biggest challenge), to using the included stitches.
I’m so happy with my purchase. And like I said, sewing didn’t come easy for me. But this Brother sewing machine sure helped allot.
The pics are of a quilt I just made for my nephew for Christmas.
I highly recommend this item for purchase. - KatLove to sewThis was the best decision I have made I love it . I have made a few covers for dog show trolleys out of canvas , some accessories that are made of rubber Matt and it sews perfectly you can’t go wrong with this machine
