  • That feeling when you finish
Finish, of course, the book. Not other matters. But you might be forgiven for thinking that, especially after the last page.

This is a horror story. A coming-of-age story. A car crash you see coming a mile away, and then crash after crash after crash. One moment I felt myself identifying with the narrator. Then I felt for him. Turn a page, and then I felt the complete opposite. Rinse and repeat. I felt my sympathies tugged this way and that, and I loved every moment of it.

This book makes you feel things. Some deeply uncomfortable things, but they are necessary speed bumps, stressors, and pain points, all of which build up to the ultimate catharsis. And yes, I’m still talking about this book, not anything else.

It may be impossible to go into this book completely blind. The title is there. The cover, very there. I myself came from a NYT review published one day before the book came out. But try to read this cold. Jump in feet first, and stay there. You’ll thank me for it, I swear.
  • DISTURBING BUT GOOD
    4 ⭐️

    Whoa...

I don't know quite what I was expecting going in to this one (I didn't read the blurb), but it definitely has some shock value. The author doesn't hold anything back in this raw and graphic telling of a high school student's desire for her teacher, and her desperate need to feel seen, heard, loved, and fulfilled.

While this is definitely not a book for those uncomfortable with strong language or S e X u a LL y E x p L i c i t material, I found it to be well crafted and undeniably consuming. I was disturbed and uncomfortable for the duration, but the no-holds-barred approach made for a most intriguing read.

This is another one of those, you either like it or you don't.

The author narrates the audiobook and her flat, nearly monotone cadence lends to the almost unhinged feel of the main character.
  • Love her writing style
Real, and brutally honest. Unashamed in the real parts of who we all can be. Can't wait to read another book from her
  • McCurdy is an amazing writer.
I highly recommend this book. It's such an engaging and captivating read that'll keep you on the edge of your seat. MCCURDY! You’ve done it again.????
  • A salacious tale worth reading.
An interesting twist on the book Tampa. A salacious tale worth reading. Would I recommend it to a friend? Yes. Am I glad I read it? Yes. Would I buy it again? Yes.
  • don’t know why nyt loved this book
Writing was good not exceptional just good. Story is ok, not exceptional but ok. And then the ending is just a cop out…author didn’t want to finish the book. What is up with this style of writing? The book is just unfinished. And quite a tragedy. The MC leaves everyone, literally leaves everyone who cared for her. She disrupted lives and just drives away! Doesn’t even say bye! Not a good read
