- Original American QueenEnjoyable, engaging. As an avid fan of Life below Zero for many years, I had been drawn to the lone woman at Kavik River camp. Authentic, American and much like many capable women I've known. Now autobiographies are by nature self serving. We know this. Yet Sue's story is true. At first, the opening pages were poorly written. I've found this true of many new authors. We plug along. Just like Sue did as a young woman. The sweet spot in her writing became evident early on. Nothing pretentious about her book. Having lived as many years and through many of the horrors young Sue did implies an understanding of our world. I too choose to live alone. And like Sue, I am looking forward not backward. This is not a book about a subservient trad wife, or a book about surviving the oppressive patriarchy trying to rear its ugly head in our country. Its about subsistence and true living. There is Sue Aikens, a cigar and a whiskey, her guns at the ready. A true American hero of the wild.
- patriotThis book should get TEN stars!!I read this incredible book non-stop. I have watched every episode of Life Below Zero since the first show so was do excited to read Sue’s book of her life. She is the ultimate survivor of neglect, abuse, abandonment, the worst weather imaginable, bears, life-threatening injuries, heartaches and on and on. What a testament to having a spirit of never giving up. I have traveled the Chena Road and it’s remote. Would love to meet her one day! One of the best books I’ve ever read.
- Jackie BExcellent!! A must read.I've watched years of the series "Life Below Zero", and have always been a huge fan of Sue Aikens! I couldn't wait to read her book after I recieved it. Sue's strength and determination, as a survivalist in Kavik was downright challenging but amazing at the same time! She expells truth, honesty and reality, with a flavor of humor all in one .
- Susan RodberKnow you can do it ! Be who you want to be !Excellent book. I have been a fan of the show and always wanted to know more about Sue, her past and how the show came to being . I couldn’t put it down. Even if you have not watched her show it’s fascinating . It makes me want to trust myself more. I can be whoever I want !
- DaiziThe rest of the storyI followed Sue on Life Below Zero for years and could never imagine how she ended up in wild Alaska alone. This story made me laugh, made me cry, and warmed my heart. She is a strong, determined example of what a woman can become. All my respect, Sue. All my respect.

- Chic with power tool’sI don’t feel I received what I pre-ordered. Totally bummed out.So far I think the book is great, but I am very disappointed with the fact that I pre-ordered so that I could get a signed copy and this is not. I have watched all the program’s and adventures that Sue has been on in the series, and am feeling pretty duped with this deal.
