- NoBoredGamesGreat Product!Perfect for cleaning up ice! This is my 2nd one- the first one, after years of use, is now ground to a stub but I've kept it around for odd jobs like scraping dried mud off the garage floor (I live on a gravel road).
- CasSandraWell worth the cost vs bags & bags of saltThis is a good investment. We got hit win so much snow that the bottom layer frozen 3 inches thick. And every time some of it melted, it would refreeze onto the sidewalk making it a sheet of ice.
Needed to break up the source, the ice pile.
Using this chopper it made easy work of breaking up the ice into chunks that could be pushed into the street. Chopped it all back about 2 foot (yes it made a difference) Less ice melting during the day meant no refreezing causing a slippery sidewalk.
After we had some warmer days used the chopper to break up large areas of packed snow/ice to encourage melting.
I found this to be extremely durable and easy to use. The spring action does take some vibration away from your hand and wrist while you're pounding away. And it's great at getting rid of your anger.
I did hit the bare concrete a few times but didn't seem to cause any immediate damage that I could see.
Very few things, that I would say are a good investment but this is definitely one of them. If you get snow then you will have ice. And you can keeping spreading deicer/rock salt.
Just get one, you'll thank me later. - Dan Tgreat tool but...I was skeptical about this spring-loaded, impact-reducing steel ice chopper, but I bought it because my driveway was extremely icy, and I needed a solution fast. Straight out of the box, it worked impressively well. The video demonstrates its effectiveness. The only reason I'm giving it four stars instead of five is the angle required to hit the ice. You have to bend down, which puts a lot of strain on your back. If it had an L-shaped design, it would be much easier on the back. Despite this, it got the job done and helped me clear all the ice from my driveway. Check out the video to see it in action. The spring takes a lot of impact away from your shoulders for sure.
- Suzy WooRecommend - great to have on handWorks well, its sturdy and great for knocking down icicles too. With western NY winters you need this tool in your arsenal.
- Eva Hastonsolid piece of metalWell made ice chopper /scrapper average ease of use have to be somewhat fit to use.
- AngGreat quality ice chopperGood sturdy ice chopper, works great and have had for 3 plus years and still going strong
- Albert zWorks Well but Rust IssuesThis ice chopper is easy to use and the shock-absorbing handle makes the job more comfortable. It works great on thinner ice, breaking off large chunks with one swing. For thicker, solid ice, it's much harder to break through.
However, there's one big downside — the blade seems to have a protective coating, but it wears off quickly from chopping ice. With melting snow and water exposure, the exposed metal starts to rust. Now I have yellow rust stains on my garage floor and front porch, which is really frustrating.
It does the job, but the rust issue is something to consider. - Carol in PAGreat Tool for Ice Removal!I live in the Northeast (Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania). Throughout February, we were hit with horrendous snow and ice so I ended up with about 3-4 inches of thick ice on my driveway and walkways, making it totally impossible to drive on or walk on without wearing spikes on my shoes. I ordered this ice chipper and it really worked well in chopping some of the ice away especially in areas where you need to walk. It's easy on the hands as the handle has a spring inside so it doesn't take that much effort to apply pressure and break up the ice and push it to the side. I'm 68 and not as strong as I used to be but this allowed me to break up a lot of the ice so as not to be a prisoner in my house due to the weather!
