- EllaFinally a great full size newborn compatible stroller!I would like to start by disclosing that I am very critical and picky with strollers. My baby is only 6 months old, and this is now the 6th stroller that we have tried, so needless to say it has been quite a journey to find one that’s right for us.
The pros:
-Uppababy brand: I have come to the conclusion that we will need more than one stroller for our city based lifestyle, and outside of this one, the one that has worked out best for us is a compact Uppababy travel stroller. I did have a small issue with the travel stroller when we first received it, and UB resolved it with no questions asked. The customer service is unmatched and that makes me confident about investing such a price into a stroller. Out of all the 6 strollers that we have been through, the UB brand has by far been the best quality and customer service.
-Basket size: the ease of accessing the storage basket and the capacity of the basket is a huge plus. I am often running errands on my own with the baby, and being able to go to a grocery store with the stroller and just using the stroller basket for a small grocery haul is great.
-The push and maneuverability: the smooth ride of Uppababy strollers is unmatched! The Cruz V3 is no exception.
-Seat improvement: I held out to purchase the V3 instead of the V2 because of the change of the bucket seat to a seat that can lay fully flat. This is a game changer for when the baby is napping in the stroller or even when we are out and I need to change his diaper. I just keep him in the stroller, lie the seat flat, and change him right in the stroller and don’t need to put him on public bathroom changing pads.
-Fabrics: the V3 as well as I believe all other UB strollers are greenguard certified, which is one of the number one things I look for in all baby products.
-Newborn nest mode: although we outgrew this feature before the stroller came out, this would have been a huge selling point because one of the things i struggled with in the beginning is finding a stroller that can accommodate a newborn without having to take a chunky bassinet around in the trunk. The versatility of being able to use this stroller from birth through toddler years makes it worth the investment!
-“Compact” fold: I put this in quotes because it is definitely not a compact fold, but it is compact for a full size stroller. The vista was not an option for us because it did not fit into my small SUV and had to be put sideways and took up my entire trunk. This one folds compact enough that it fits into my smaller suv (BMW x3).
Now as I mentioned, I am hard to please, and although I would rate this stroller 5 stars overall, there are still a few cons although none of them would be deal breakers.
The cons:
Weight: This stroller is still quite heavy for what would be a smaller end full size stroller. The stroller does feel extremely sturdy though so weight is just a compromise for a well build stroller frame with a large capacity storage basket.
Fold: I don’t find the fold the easiest and there are too many steps to make it compact. You need to move the handlebar to the lowest position, pull the canopy back and align the seat with the handle, pull the fold triggers on each side, and then fold the footrest down and the handle bar down separately. I also don’t like that they moved the latch to unlock the stroller to unfold to the top, because when it is near the handle it makes it easier to unfold in one maneuver when pulling out of the trunk. With the latch closer to the footrest, I now have to take the stroller out of the trunk and fully set it down on the ground, and can then unlatch and unfold it. The stroller also cannot be folded with the seat in parent facing mode, so it always has to be removed and turned around before folding.
Newborn nest visibly: when the newborn nest mode is not used and the fabric is folded behind the foot rest, the extra fabric shows on the sides of the footrest. I wish they had designed a pocket behind the footrest to nearly tuck everything away as the newborn mode is used for such a short period and it would have been nice to fully disguise it the rest of the strollers lifecycle.
The seat: my biggest disappointment with the V3 upgrade is that they did not make it an all weather seat with a mesh back. We live in Florida and it gets extremely hot and this would have been such a great addition. The seat is also slightly more narrow than the V2 (only by about 1” I believe) but that does raise concerns about the strollers longevity compared to the older model for kids who are in the higher percentile for weight and height.
The canopy extension: the canopy coverage is good when fully extended, but not the best that I have seen. There is an extra fabric that wraps around the belly bar, but this is most helpful for newborn mode or when the stroller is fully reclined, but hangs loose if extended while the stroller is in an upwards position. Without this extension, the canopy is big enough to keep sun of out his eyes but still gives more sun exposure than I would like.
All in all, I would rate this stroller an 8/10. The quality of the frame, basket, fabrics, and the comfortable seat and push make this a great long term investment that can last for multiple kids. If you are expecting a newborn and do not need to take this stroller in and out of the car and will use it for neighborhood walks, then this is the perfect stroller. If you have toddlers or babies who can sit up already and are considering to upgrade your V2 to the V3, although it is a great stroller, I would stick to the V2 for the bigger seat and don’t think the non newborn upgrades are worth the extra cost.
UPDATE:
The front of the canopy has started to fray about 2 months in. Uppababy did send me a replacement canopy but it seems it will do it again from the way the fabric is already showing a few pulls on the new canopy. I did see the black color in store and it seems to be a different fabric, so not sure if this will be an ongoing issue with the Savannah color. - Amazon customerEasy to maneuver, store, and push- a great buy!We did a lot of research into different bassinet strollers for our newborn. After some trial and error we ordered the Uppababy Cruz V3 stroller and have been thrilled with it. First of all, the stroller is easy to assemble and the build is sturdy and safe. The seat attachment can be put in either facing mom and dad or the world which is great. We did think that the seat insert to make the seat into a bassinet did look a little funny, so we bought the Uppababy bassinet for our newborn to ride in. The quality of the stroller is great and it is lightweight and very easy to maneuver. An added plus is that the stroller has an adjustable handlebar and has a setting which is quite low which is helpful for me because I am under 5 feet. The stroller folds well and is easy to transport and store. The stroller is also asthetically pleasing and has an overall pretty look. One thing that I wish was a bit different is that the stroller is fairly bumpy when riding over the sidewalk, however I have not seen any other strollers that would fit that qualification (besides for strollers that have huge wheels and are a lot heavier to manipulate). I highly recommend this stroller!
- aylinsbooksGreat quality and lots of basket roomIt’s definitely worth the money! It’s light weight, versatile, the wheels and maneuverability are top notch! I love the infant seat for the stroller and the large basket!
- SJThe perfect newborn-ready strollerLOVE the changes UppaBaby has made to this stroller. The bucket seat on the V2 was my only reservation in getting it but the fully lie-flat seat on the V3 is a game changer. The bassinet mode is a little cumbersome because you have to disassemble it every time you fold the stroller but it's not a huge inconvenience. I just unsnap all the buttons and leave the whole thing flopped out rather than tucking it back neatly into the leg rest each time. Super easy! Also, despite being made to convert into a bassinet, the calf support on this feels just as sturdy as the V2. The fabric on it has some kind of semi-rigid plastic inside that is flexible enough to bend so it can be converted into a bassinet but sturdy enough that it doesn't give at all when it's reassembled into the regular seat configuration. The stroller itself feels very sturdy and rolls like butter. It's reasonably easy to fold and the clip on the side ensures it's not going to pop back open while you're trying to load it into your car.
And because I've seen comments posted in various places around the internet asking this very question - no, the seat does not have the same design flaw that the Nuna Mixx has where it's shallow and sloped and causes kids to slide down it. - Courtney DameronYES, YOU NEED ITIn love with this stroller. I wish I got it sooner, it’s amazing and so versatile. I love the sun shade for my three month old! Super easy to maneuver around!
- Stacie KollerSleek and good looking! This stroller is very sleek and very great quality! We upgraded from an older model. The older model was wider and more solid, but aesthetically speaking in this one wins. Love our UppaBaby!
- YaduGreat stroller worth the $Amazing stroller! Very well thought out and very comfortable for our toddler. I’ll come back in 6-8 months and re-review it but at this point there isn’t a single complain. Have been using it for over a month.
