- kkcGreat little basic camera!We had a slightly more advanced camera (it could pan and incrementally zoom) when my daughter was younger, but it stopped holding a charge after a few years. For the price versus buying another replacement battery, I decided to look for another unit altogether and stumbled on this one.
It works perfectly for what we need. Our daughter is older now, but still young enough that I need to know if she gets out of bed in the middle of the night, especially if I am working on something in the garage, in the backyard, etc. Since she typically either sleeps through the night, or comes straight to my room if she wakes up and needs something, so I didn’t need anything “fancy.”
This is perfect if you’re looking for a reasonably priced, fixed-frame camera. The picture quality is good, and the night vision is great (comparable to many high-end cameras I tried when she was a baby). The battery holds a charge for several hours, and it’s got a great range. We have a 2700 sq ft house, and the monitor will pick up the camera signal anywhere in the house, and about 20 feet into the back or front yard.
I also love the option of having a handheld monitor versus a wi-fi camera with an app because I often work from my phone and can’t realistically always have the camera feed pulled up. - T ElaineThe complete packagePerfect baby monitor! The picture quality is very clear, even using night vision, and the battery life on the parent unit is phenomenal!
I’ve gone an entire day of not charging the parent unit, using it during naps and after baby’s bedtime, and it still has one battery notch left by late night when I go to sleep.
It also travels well. I pack it up and take it to my parents house when we spend the day with them, and setup is as simple as positioning and plugging it in.
The parent unit itself is very lightweight and slim, and fits fairly well into my pockets. The kickstand works well, but the unit is so light that it’s actually a bit unstable when using it and falls over often. That’s a bit annoying, but it’s really not a big deal.
I really appreciate that the lights above the screen on the parent unit light up to visually demonstrate that my baby is making noise. It lights all the way to red if he’s crying loudly, and only blips a bit if he’s just babbling. This makes it so that I can see that my baby is crying even without the volume up.
The ECO mode is great. After baby falls asleep, I choose a noise sensitivity level, then the picture and sound goes off until he makes noise. Only complaint is that when the mode is active and the screen goes off, there’s a bright flashing green light; it’s nice that it’s telling me it’s still on and active, but I have to cover it up at night when I’m sleeping because it’s very bright.
I’ve had no connection issues in my small-average sized, 2 story house; the signal seems pretty strong! Funny enough, it only breaks momentarily if I leave it too close to my PS4 controller.
Overall, very good monitor especially for its value, does everything I need it to! - Amazon CustomerSeems to be a great camera for the price but still returning as it doesn't fit all my needsSo I have had this camera for only a few days and here are my thoughts. I also can't speak to the longevity of this camera as I decided to return it within a day b/c it doesn't have all the features I need. Overall it delivers on what it promises which is why I gave it 4 stars.
Pros:
-the range is great (baby's room is on second floor and it works in basement, outside in our back yard and front yard)
-the instructions say optimal image is 6 feet away and anything within that the image is great - can clearly see babies features etc...
-great price for what it is (compared to other baby monitors)
-no distracting light from the camera base
-two way sounds works however when i talk through it its not great sound but my son can hear me
Cons:
-Camera doesn't rotate at all so I have to have the camera more than 6 feet away (its probably about 10 feet) so I can see the entire crib and therefore the features of my sons face are hard to see (can't tell if his eyes are open or closed)
-you can't stay in the zoomed in mode and adjust anything like volume and color contrast
-notification is only for sound NOT motion detection which is a problem for me as my son often wakes up in the morning and will calmly sit there in his crib
-the sensitivity for ECO mode (when the camera shuts its screen off) doesn't work well. If you have it on high its constantly going off when there is no change in sound or anything in his room (we have a white noise machine so I can only think this is what is setting it off) so that can be disruptive to your a light sleeper; but if i set it to medium it doesn't capture the sounds of him when he does move / sit up in his crib; i feel like there needs to be a mode in between them
-when screen is in "sleep mode" i sometimes have to press the button a few times for it to "wake up" to see my son
What I wish it had:
-you can't adjust the length of time the screen turns on when it hears a sound - its only 30 seconds; I wish I could change the timing of this to be longer
-wish it allowed you to pan the room when not in zoom mode so that I can have it closer to the crib and see my son better
-wish it alerted you with movement as well as sound
