  • A warm story that speaks to the soul
The Lost Bookshop by Evie Woods is an absolute delight — a gentle, heartwarming read that swept me away from the very first page. If you’ve ever dreamed of stumbling across a magical bookshop tucked away from the world, this story will speak straight to your soul.

Woods weaves a beautiful tale full of charm, mystery, and quiet hope. The characters are layered and lovable, the writing is lyrical without being heavy, and the atmosphere is just enchanting. There’s a sense of wonder throughout the book — like anything is possible if you just believe in the power of stories.

What I especially loved is how the narrative feels both comforting and empowering. It’s a reminder that books can offer us second chances, that the past can whisper its truths to the present, and that sometimes the most unexpected places lead us exactly where we need to be.

It’s the perfect read for a cold afternoon, a cozy weekend, when you have strong head cold, or any time you want to fall in love with the magic of books all over again. Highly recommended for anyone who adores fiction that feels like a warm hug!
  • Sweet Mystery and Romance
This book surprised me. I expected a cozy mystery but it contains quite a bit more. Lovely characters, some fantasy, a couple of love stories and a bit of the super natural . Enjoyable too
  • Fully Human and Captivating
I loved this book. I was totally transported to a few different times and several different places. The characters are fully human and 3-D. Their stories are captivating. The writing is great. When I had to put the book down and forgot a few details when I picked it up again, I had no problem with rereading sections. Beautiful! I recommend to all book lovers.
  • What a gem!
This book is beautifully written and takes you on a journey through two different time periods told from three characters' perspectives. It was hard to understand what was going on in the first half of the book, but little by little, a mystery is revealed and readers are left wondering what is going to happen next at the end of every chapter. It was heartbreaking yet also heartwarming at the same time. I felt so sad for Opaline and what she had to endure in her life but the ending was such a surprise and everything came full circle with a lovely reunion. I was a little disappointed for the lost manuscript that wasn't recovered but the search had brought Martha and Henry together and so much more. Unexpected and beautiful story about love, lies, loyalty, greed, friendship, power, war, death, grief and even mental illness. Amazing.
  • I expected more…
3.5 ⭐️’s —Maybe I expected too much from all the hype? This book was a decent story that jumps around in time, a common way to write novels. I found myself more intrigued with Opaline’s story and literally skipped chapters on Martha and Henry towards the end of the book. Their storyline was very predictable and slow even down to Madame Bowden’s “reveal”— figured that one out very early on. Opaline’s story however was very interesting and surprising! All in all I enjoyed this book, just not as much as I thought I would. The predictable present day storyline, some character interactions that seemed added after the final draft to only make the ending make sense, aka, Martha’s mother’s short visit to Dublin. It’s just not one I will add to my bookshelf. I would not reread this title.
  • Great story and characters.
This story was very creative, with great characters. The only reason I took one star away was because the ending was entirely too rushed. The book had this amazing, well paced build up and then a lot was thrown at us in the last couple chapters. We earned the beautiful ending and then didn’t even get a chance to enjoy it. We were also introduced to a very important character in the last 1/4 of the book and then she’s barely mentioned again. Even 10 more pages would have satisfied me.
  • Beautifully written and magical story
Evie Woods tells another beautifully written and magical story with The Lost Bookshop. Her prose has a way of drawing you in with its quiet charm, blending a touch of whimsy with heartfelt depth.

This book brings together multiple perspectives and timelines, centering around Martha, Henry, and Opaline, three very different characters whose lives are unexpectedly linked through the mystery of a hidden bookshop. Each of their journeys feels layered and meaningful: Martha’s escape from a controlling life, Henry’s search for belonging, and Opaline’s historical thread filled with resilience and secrets. While their stories unfold separately, the way Woods weaves them together creates a sense of fate and timelessness that I really enjoyed.

The setting itself feels like a character, an enchanting, almost otherworldly bookshop that seems to appear when it’s needed most. It carries that sense of wonder that book lovers will instantly connect with, reminding us of the magic that stories and words can hold.

The characters and their growth made the journey worthwhile. It’s not just about books, it’s about second chances, self-discovery, and finding strength in unexpected places.

A lovely, atmospheric read for anyone who believes in the quiet power of stories.
  • Loved it!
